INFINIUM NONSENSE

OLD FART

New member
Bought an infinium in 2004. was mislead by all the negative comments. Boy am I glad that I am an indepedent old fart and kept it and used it. It is easy to use. does it have it's drawbacks? Yes it does but overall it is a great machine. Have I found tons of gold? No , but I have had a lot of fun finding coins and relics with it. I have an old tesoro gold demon 11 and a new gold bug pro. Both very good machines. But when I am hunting big gold or meteroites and don't want to be bothered by noisy ground or hot rocks, the infinium is the go to machine. I will never sell mine. I have all the coils also. It is too bad that this machine got blasted by the nay sayer gurus on the net. What it did was kill a good machine. Too bad. Are the minelabs or whites tdi machines better. Yes but remember that minelab did not come out with freq. adjust for powerline noise until after the infinium. Also garrett takes care of their customers. It is ashame that the infinium got bashed so badly. I really like mine and hope to see more people get the infinium. I can guarentee you that if there had been as many infiniums sold and really used by md,ers as minelabs that you would see a lot of gold, coins and jewerly finds on this forum. My favorite coil is the 8 inch mono. Hope this helps folks that are holding back on getting an infinium. As I said , I don't listen to the hate mongers on internet sites as most of them can't spell, how can they be smart enough to use a detector.

the infinium is the next detector i will purchase. i just have to get around to selling my 2b. then hopefully finding a decently priced used infinium with some warranty. i really like my at pro, but i think the TID is causing me to not dig as many finds. i feel that the infinium will eliminate a lot of the pondering i do before i dig. plus id rather rely on garretts customer service on both my units. i love the nautilus, but god forbid something bad happens to the machine. ill have to wait a few months to get it back.

also, i think that a lot of people are just waiting on improvements on the PI technology(at least the discrimination aspect)

I agree with Old Fart (my favorite relative's nickname is Old Fart - he has a hat with old fart on it :) they may have killed Infinium but i'm glad mine still works. I wont part with mine either. I dont care about Pickers (i have Lobo S T for that) just the size range from a few grams & up, so mine goes as deep as Any PI's i've seen afield (along side gpx 4500's) with Targets i'm concerned with. doesn't take very long to pay itself off. A guy posted once that if someone gave him a GPX he'd sell it & buy another Infinium and spend the remainder on booze , I'd probably do the same Except for the Booze part (25yrs. none) . nick1 ~ some Targets can sound the same as Gold but The more tones You learn the better Human Discrim/Discerment You'll have. I dont own a Detector with Dig. or Gold Readouts & doubt i'll ever care to, Allz i care about are decent Headphones . Ken~Digs

I think a lot of people bashed it because they never really took the time to learn it. It may seem like a simple unit to use with only a few knobs, but it has to be set up correctly. If people took their time to read the manual, go through the process of finding the quietest frequency via the frequency check, ground balance the unit and figure out that the discrimination and threshold adjustments can be used to make the unit stable in most all conditions, and run it stable, they would never have bashed it.

I did bash it when I first got mine, but not due to performance. It was due to the head phone connector design. A poor design in my book. I think the connector should be more heavy duty.....the pins are too small and you have to make sure they are lined up perfectly before screwing on the connector cap. Since I have a pair of Grey Ghost underwater headphones connected now, I never take them off so I don't have to worry but I do think a better headphone connector could have been used.

I have used a lot of PI's for salt water beach hunting including Whites TDI and my Eric Foster Gold Quest V2. The Infinium is the best unit for that application, due to it being water proof, the ability to change coils and the indispensable hi/lo and lo/hi tones, which can be used to help eliminate false signals. A repeatable hi/lo or lo/hi is almost always a target and you don't get fooled much on minor false signals while salt water beach hunting. Does it take time to set up and make it run smooth in the salt water...yes. But you have to, because it being designed for gold hunting, it does not have the salt water conductivity range canceled out....you have to do that yourself.

I will NEVER sell my Infinum under an circumstances.

Glad to have you as part of the Infinium team Old Fart. Hope lots of gold comes your way.

Hey Doug ~ If it's a good price , I wouldn't think twice. You'll get all the help You need with this sometimes misunderstood machine ~ at this & other forums.
It's hard for me to believe that people sell a less than yr. old Infinium , most detector for the money (to my Reality) that You can get for the $. Super versatile if simple operations are followed. Ken

Thanks Ken and all. He's asking 900 bucks, but think I can get it for 6, maybe 7. Almost half price from a new one. I'll let you know how it goes.

Doug ~ did You get the Finny & how much ? Ken~Digs

Sorry to hear that - My mom had a close call last thanksgiving, she's doing pretty good now. I'll Hope & Pray for your situation. Ken

Went out the other day with Walt and didn't realize how old and defunct I am getting. Just a few minutes detecting with the finny , my arm was killin me. I hadn't used it in a couple years. Wow have I aged. So relunctantly I put her on e-bay. I've got to get something lighter. I think I might pick up another brand of p i machine that weighs 3 pounds as opposed to the finnys 6 pounds. I don't know how these guys swing the mls allday. I'd die the first 5 minutes, but that's just me and my fat old decrepid body. I need to find some young kid to swing the detector and dig the 3 foot holes for a split of the finds. Haven't found anyone willing to do that yet. I sure do miss being young. Oh well, enough rambling on. Thanks for putting up with me. OLD FART

Old Fart sorry to hear that bout the Infinium . I Hear Ya on Conditioning , I shouldn't let the total gym collect dust.

Have a Trivia question for Old Fart (Respectfully) : Do You know which Arizona town the Giant Trommel sits at rest ? Check Picture

No I don't, I just moved to Havasu a little over a year ago. Just learning about Arizona. They sure had a lot of outlaws and stage coach robberies here . Arizona must have been a hard case back in the old days.

It's in Quartzite N. side of Main street between the Store and Mcdonald's (i think Kofa st.) How do U like Havasu so far ? Ken

I have an Etrac and AT Pro and went to the beach (Outer Banks, NC) this year for a week and got to use them. The ETrac was nice and quiet and stable, the AT Pro was nice in the light surf, but after coming home and researching a third detector for the beach when I go back down this winter..... I have pretty much decided on the Garrett Infinium. I saw a lot of bad reviews and I saw some good ones for people that actually got to know how to use it.
If you don't take the time to learn a good machine, then you will get frustrated, think it's crap, and never get to see it's potential. When I got my ETrac and T2, everyone said 'the ETrac is great on silver but bad on gold, and the T2 is too chatty'. The ETrac takes time to learn learn what gold looks/sounds like which is tougher than silver on that machine. If gold is there I find it easily as silver, cause I took the time to learn the machine. The T2 is chatty, but it's super sensitive...too sensitive when run all out. Like taking all the governors off the go-carts at the track and watch people wiping out like mad and them saying 'the track is bad and the carts don't work right'. Run it as hot as it will go and it's amazing. From what I read if you know the Infinium and run it, set it up correctly for youself/conditions, it's amazing!
I been lucky with detectors and accessories and the only issue I ever had was with my headphones adapter kit for my AT-Pro. When I unplugged it after using it the first time, the insides pulled out of it. ouch! I sent Garrett Service an Email about it. I got a response within 6 hours that they were sending me a new one and a return shipping label to send the bad one back so they could see how it failed. Garrett was fast, no B.S., very courteous, and professional. I was very impressed.

I am sure I'll be posting here more after I get mine very soon...
