<STRONG>Hello everyone,</STRONG>
New to this club but not new to detectin (20+yrs and counting). <img src="/metal/html/super.gif" border=0 width=26 height=28 alt=":super">
I've owned a slew of detectors over the years including:
Many Garrett machines. Inc. in the last 15 yrs, 3 different Ace series, 1 Grand Master Hunter CX III, 2 GTA 1000s, (currently use a GTI 2500) and have just bought the 2 box depth multiplier for cache hunting this comming spring. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
Have also owned:
1 Whites surf master II PI
1 Whites XLT (bought 10 yrs ago, sold 3 yrs ago).
<STRONG>Also currently own/use a Fisher CZ20 for the last 3 yrs along with my GTI 2500</STRONG>
but,
Am wondering if anyone here has used the new Garrett Infinium LS pulse induction machines yet and if so, how well do they work, how deep was your deepest find, do they discriminate fairly well, etc. etc.
any and all info is appreciated,
Thanks,
Treasdiver

Hi!
The Infinium is a deep machine but the disc. is not a true discrimination.I have dug pulltab 2 feet. The disc. works with a high/low tone for foil, nickel, and pulltabs but the machine also sees steel bottle caps and small steel byproducts in the same tone.I have not dug any true iron targets yet.The low/high tone is for clad ,silver, brass, copper and iron but if you want to check for iron you spin the disc. knob to iron check. This will allow iron to signal strong everything else either disappears or signals soft. The plus is the steel caps also signal strong if you want to use iron check every target. The machine work the salt wet sand good but in the shallow water fair.If it is calm you can work it with little falsing but if it is rough it is hard to hear deep targets.I don't feel if you dive deep water you won't have any problems.I am still learning it.I also just listen for high/low tone for gold jewelery is what I am mainly looking for.Good hunting,Joe

Thanks for the info hunter Joe. I'm thinking about buying one to add to my collection of detectors. It sounds like it will meet my needs for beach hunting and I will also use it in <span style="background-color:#ffff00;">worked out areas</span> on land where I no longer get signals with my CZ20 and GTI 2500. I had a surf master PI years ago that I used for these same reasons and although it would find coins up to 2 ft deep (depending on the soil) it also found EVERYTHING that I didn't want!

It is a interesting machine.Use it sololy for a while to get a good hang of the machine.I mainly use the stock coil and turn the disc. up to 1 and 3/4.This helps handle the salt when wet sand hunting. When in the water you may have to go up to 3 or just above it.If it is rough I would use the CZ or other water machine. It false to much when it is rough.I have heard the big mono coil will get better depth but it I am not sure of it's stablity in and around salt.I also heard you should send it in to tune it for the mono coil.Give you good idea on this machines depth I dug a nickle today 2 feet in the upper wet sand.I use the water headphones and tape the holes to stop the wind. Most of my targets where within 18 inches. Also use a very low threshold almost not audio.I ran mine so low it seemed not there.I also heard use the threshold as sensitive control but I still trying this out to eliminate the false noises. Here is a web site that talk sololy about the Infinium.

There is alot of good info but you may want to back read the old posts. Also a lot of good poeple with experience to answer your question.I am still learning it so I know my knowledage is still small on the Infinium.I will try my best to help answer your question when you get your machine.I did get one gold name plate today .Remember I am only using the high/low tone for my hunting.I have read it is a good relic machine but I have not had a time to try it relic hunting.Buy a new one because there been updates since the come out. This one is total opposite from the I had when they first come out.Keep us posted and good hunting,Joe

Swing has to be level and slow/medium pace. This will give you good depth and tone.It also will eliminate fasling.hope this all helps,Joe

<STRONG>Thanks Joe,</STRONG>
All this info has helped greatly and the link to the other site has helped very much also!
I liked the thread on the <span style="background-color:#ffff00;">discrimination</span> of the machine that the guy who helped with the design of the Infinium posted!
I have <span style="background-color:#ffff00;">no doubt</span> that I'll be buying one in the near future, it's just going to take a month or 2 since, I just added a new MXT to my ever increasing list of detectors. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
Kellyco had a used one with 19 mo's of warranty left on it for $599.00 but, it also included a DD 1400 eliptical coil, a quality set of Gold series head phones and a carrying bag for the above price. Just the detector alone sells for $799.00 + the DD coil is a $249.00 coil and the upgraded head phones too!? Couldn't resist buying into that deal! It'll be here tomorrow afternoon.
That brings my arsonal of detectors to:
1: Fisher CZ20 (8 inch spider coil).
1: Garrett GTI 2500 with the 9.5 in. and the 12.5 in. image coils + the (2 box depth multiplier).
1: Whites MXT with the 9 in. standard and 6x14 in. DD coils.
I believe when I buy the Infinium LS, that will complete my collection of detectors for a while until the industry makes "<span style="background-color:#ffff00;">leaps and bounds</span>" in the tech. of detectors!
It's hard to explain and justify to the woman of the house why I need so many different detectors!
I notice you're in FL?
I used to live in the Tampa/St. Pete area many years ago. Never did much detecting back then (early 80s) but always wanted to. I was 1st mate of a fishing vessel that did 8 day runs out in the Gulf of Mex. for Grouper/Snapper. Hard but fun/adventerous life and it paid very well too for being a kid!
Those were my 'younger days' before Mel Fisher found the Atocha but- he found it around the same time I left FL and came back to MI.
It made me want to turn around and go back so I could work for him! I do own my own scuba equipment and have re-visited FL 2xs for dive trips since then and, I do some diving here in the 'fridiged waters' of MI now and then!
I do a lot of water hunting with my wet-suit and weight belt attached to keep me from tipping/floating but haven't done a lot of scuba with detector in hand, as, it is quite cumbersome and I've found that most jewelry is at from knee to neck deep water anyway!
Well, keep me informed, HH and I'll let you know when I get my Infinium!
Treasdiver.

I know what you mean!I to have owned a lot of detectors and switched to many brand and models.I am down to: the Minelab Excal. 1000( my mian unit),the Garrett Infinium and and now the Garrett Ace 250.As I get more used to the Infinium I will most likely us it more than the "X".I had a XLT and replaced it with the 250.It is a great little machine for the price.Keep reading the posting about the Infinium and print the good note off for later reveiw.Good hunting,Joe
