Infinium LS questions

Greg (E.Tn)

Well-known member
Does anyone here use the Infinium LS while scuba diving at depths up to 30 feet or so?

If so, how does it hold up at depth?

Secondly, I am basically familiar with pulse machines, but most of the ones I am aware of are all metal.

How well does the Infinium pulse machine discriminate? The general environment I operate in is rivers where ferries, fords, etc. have resulted in general amounts of iron trash being tossed into the water, and shallow smaller rivers where tourists ride inner tubes and frequently lose jewelry, but also bobbie pins, and the items are mixed in with iron trash common to rivers and streams.

Hence the question about the disc. capabilities of the pulse machine.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Greg,

The only form of 'discrimination' that LS has, is that it will ID some targets with a hi/low signal ( low conductors like gold, aluminum, AND IRON) and will ID higher conductivity targets ( copper, silver...AND IRON) as low/hi.

So...for all intents a purposes, it does not really discriminate iron that well. At least in my experience. I use my LS with the 10x14 mono in the salt water beaches in NJ. I still dig iron. The only iron targets I can pretty much tell is when they are elongated or shallow. They tend to double hit or fade in and out and not have a repeatable hi/low or low/hi when sweeping from multiple angles.

But deeper iron, like washers, round iron globs, etc. sound good. As well as bobbie pins that are not shallow and elongated !

My 2 cents.

People seem to forget the Infinium LS has an iron check feature. It works quite well together with the high-low tones. Its a must to use iron check on most targets to try to rule out iron. Its not 100% but its better than not having it.
