Infinium instability.

I am starting to wonder if there is something wrong with my finny. It works great for awhile and then becomes unstable, works one day and not another. I cant tell if it is a GB problem or if it is having a cable problem. I used it today both dry and wet and it was hit or miss. I turned it on and ground balanced, then ran it for about 15 min, then suddenly it wouldn't stay quiet. I shut it down and went swimming. I then got the finny and took it in the water. It worked for awhile and then went all weird again. This happened about 4 times today. Batteries seem to be good. Is it possible that the electronics get warm and then lose stability? I had this problem a few months back and then I used it at the beach and it worked great for 2 days in a row. I am starting to get really frustrated. I have been running the 8" coil. I did find a small ear ring which was neat so I know its working.

That sounds very much like bad batteries or intermittent battery contact.
It is possible that the control box has a problem but check all of the battery contacts first and be sure that there is no corrosion on any of the battery compartment contacts.
If you are using rechargeable or the garrett originals then replace them with a set of good qual alkalines and try again. If you do not have one already you will have to purchase an AA 8 pack battery holder. Do not fit oversize batteries that are a tight fit in the battery compartment. The battery pack should drop straight in without having to push the pack in.

thanks I will check it out. Hoping to use the finny at the end of the month for some serious nugget hunting.

My Infinium will sometimes have to be tweaked up a little after it warms up/cools down to the ambient temperature. Sometimes just switching it off, then turning it on in lock position stabilizes it, and I just leave it there.

Do you use a coil cover? I was having issues with the small DD and decided to pull off the coil cover and found all sorts of black sand in it from beach hunting. I washed it off and it was as good as new

I do have a cover on the 8" and that may be a problem. I found that it would be stable when held level but would sound off when pumped. As though it wasnt GBed. It was much better with the stock 14" coil. Perhaps its just really bad ground but I dont think that is the problem
