Infinium HOT on Gold! Coil Question...

This forum recommended that I use the 8 inch mono coil for gold jewelry in the sea- thanks! That's exactly what I did on my last Caribbean treasure hunt and as the picture shows, the Infinium loves gold! Plus surprisingly, I did not dig too much junk as with all the other PIs I've tried. I think the Infinium is very underrated for shallow water hunting in the sea, and goes very deep! It also hits gold chains pretty good and now has earned a spot next to my Excaliburs. The Infinium could become my main machine!

Keep in mind, I found all that gold in the photo (7 oz!) the first time using this Infinium! That's amazing and I think it will only get better as I learn the detector. By the end of the week I was almost able to tell the difference between the audio quality of a tab and a gold ring! The Infinium will hit gold jewelry others miss. I still prefer my Excaliburs in rocky/hard areas, but if I want to find deep gold, the Infinium Rocks! The Infinium is the Excalibur of PIs.

My question for the water guys here on this forum is, for my Caribbean trip next month, should I try the 14 mono coil in shallow water? Will it hit as hard on Gold as the 8? When in the sea for hours, will the extra ground coverage of the 14 offset the increased drag of the larger coil? For those who use both mono coils in the water, which do you prefer? For shallow water is the 14 better, or too much of a good thing? Thanks, SH34.

I love my Infinium, and strictly use the 10x14 mono...but I don't get in the water that much. It's mostly wet sanding and suds, so coil drag is not taken into consideration. I know the 10x14 is hot on gold as well, as I found 3 pieces of gold the first two hunts, one being my best find of all time, which was a diamond engagement ring appraised at 6K-7K.

I say that 8 inch mono is working super for you, and keep using it. BUT, since you do have a little extra dough from all that gold, and the fact that you can swap out coils, get that 10x14 mono too ! HA !

One thing I do know...the stock DD won't ever go back on my Infinium, and for that reason, I sold it. The beaches I hunt are mineralized and the monos work great there.

I use the Infinium in the water up to waist depth and the big mono is fine if there is not much wave action or under current but wherever there is an under current this coil becomes a bit of a hanfull. It is every bit as sensitive as the 8 inch but gets slightly better depth on the larger items like bangles and watches.Whichever coil you use, don't force it through the water against the current because you will get tired very fast and are likely to break a shaft and won't maintain an even sweep pattern.

I use the 8 inch in the water now because it is easier to manage and I know that it is getting very good depth on all targets.
The 10 x 14 is great in the water on the tide line and over the dry sand mainly for the extra coverage.
Pinpointing with the big mono can be a bit tricky at times. I use the intesection of the leading tone in the usual X marks the spot fashion.

If I am finding mainly deep items in dry areas then I will change to the 10 x 14 because it will find everthing that the 8 inch will find plus go deeper on large targets.

Awesome finds!:clapping:Congrats on the gold!:beers:
Yeah, might as well get that 10"x14"mono. Keep that 8"mono, too. You'll find that there are times when one is better than the other. Anyways, you can't have too many search coils.
Happy Hunting!:)
