Infinium falsing question?

Keith Southern

Active member
I have an Infinium and when I touch the housing coil bulk head it falses like crazy (The chrome connector on the back of the housing) all coils cause it to do this..8" Mono,10x14DD,&5x10DD.

even does it with the coils unplugged just touching the housing connector??

anyone lese notice this real easy to check just turn it on and touch around the chrome spot where it sticks out of housing..
also does it when water hit's it??

Crazy setup for sure...

It sounds like a defective connector that needs to be serviced.

What is the coil housing bulk head? Hard to tell what your talking about....

where the coil's connect...If you touch it the machine high tones like crazy?

No matter which coil is connected or no coil at all just touch it...

I dunked the unit in water and as soon as the connector jack went under it went crazy??

Thanks

Keith

department and they stated that the coil connector Jack on the back of the housing is very susceptible to falsing when touched or even when in water??

Said it was a very hard problem for them to overcome in the design of the instrument..Said they could look at it...Unit runs extremely smooth and very deep actually on my first outing it found some deep civil ware Button's in really bad ground so it work's great but I know the falsing issue just isn't right...

Heck unit was just refurbished 6 month's ago ??? Seems like they would check thing's like that out??

Not sure what to do...MIght get my money back from the seller or could send it in if it isnt too expensive?

Anyone know the turn around time??

Keith

Keith,

Not sure what the turn around time is for fixing it, but I have read that Garrett has serviced used Infiniums for minimal cost.

I just tried touching the coil connector jack on mine while the machine was on, and the unit does NOT false...even when I gently moved the cable. I would have your's checked out but ask about the potential cost.

interesting about that. If I touch the coil cable while connected at that area mine will false also, I dont like it...it didnt start happening until I dropped it 30 feet down a cliff...but if I dont touch it its pretty quiet. Mayeb you should send yours in. If its still under warrenty should be free.

It is normal for the Infinium to produce sporadic tone changes whe the coils are not conected to the control box.
If the falsing is produced when the control box and or the coil or headphone connector on the control box is touched by hands (no coil connected) then there is a fault in the control box.
If the falsing occurs only when the coil is connected then the fault is generally in the cable connector or the coil lead at or near to the control box.
This type of fault can occur if one or more of the pins in the cable or control box connector is bent which results in poor connection when the plug and socket is tightened or if there is a bad or brocken shield connection.
