Infinium coil question ...

Willee - Texas

Hunting wet slat water sand which coil would be the better choice?

The large standard (stock) coil or the large mono coil?

Willee

Both work good. The large coil covers more area, is lighter then the large DD and I don't think the depth difference is really that significant from my own experience. I find I can get better audio discrimination using the larger coil and for some strange reason I can get the coins from a coin spill much easier with the large coil.

However, based on others opinion and also my myself, the large mono is better. Just to confuse you here's an air test I did which defies the general conception that a larger coil is deeper.

PI's just don't air test worth a dam!

In most circumstances the large mono coil, it's lighter and has a faster reaction time, meaning slightly faster coil swing speed therefore more coverage on open beach with few targets.
However there are circumstances where the large stock issued coil will outperform the large mono simply my better separation and search pattern, example after a storm where there can be a concentration of targets in smaller areas and where target separation performance is more important than to outpace someone.
Keep in mind, a man with PI unit in smaller productive area is usually given a wider berth.
