Infinium battery charging

A rechargeable battery pack came with the Infinium but does not have any information on how long it takes to charge. I cant see any indicator light that would indicate the batteries are fully charged. Can someone tell me how long do you leave the charger on?
And any other advice on using the recharger.

Dave

I just happened to be talking to Myra at Garrett about my Infinium and getting it "tuned up" when I saw your post.

I asked her to find out about battery charging (she is new on the job and doesn't know) and let me know.

I'll forward the info to you.

My charger has no light either, but does have a notice printed on it to allow at least 8 Hours for a complete charge.

This works for me, charge at home or in the car........."enecharger NC8700" available from battery-world or other places in Au.

I bought the 15 minute charger for 4 batts. Using the Garrett supplied batts. Takes 30 minutes for all. If you use the Garrett charger I believe it is 8ish hours or overnight will do.

Yes 8 hours is about right for the stock batts if the battery test is down to one beep.
It is better to under charge than to over charge NiMh batts. Even when the batteries have a full charge the charger will keep pumping current through and the batteries will get hot. If you decide to use high capacity batteries say 2650 or 2800mah then the stock battery charger may be a bit overloaded due to the lower internal resistance of these batteries which draw a higher current from the charger than what it was designed to deliver as a continuous output.
for these batteries you need to get a higher capacity charger.

Thanks for the replies.
Cupajo you are right I checked the back of the charger again and it does state 8 hours.
Ivanll I have started looking in Tassie to see if I can source the

Also rechargeable batts especially around 2000-2500 are much heavier than standard batts. My GTI 2500 weighs 4.7 lbs with alkaline...and weighs 5.4 lbs with 2500 rechargeable batts. Infinium can get a bit heavy with the big ones in it. I use the 1600 that Garrett supplies and are about same weight as alkalines.

cymro.

I use duracell 2650s most of the time and also DS 2300s. (NiMh)
The 2650s are a firm fit and you need to fit the battery holder with a small cable tie in a loop around the end of the battery holder so that you can pull the batteries out .
As far as detecting time is concerned there is only a difference of a couple of hours between these two battery capacities.

Tried a set of NiCads and they were fine but give very little warning that they are about to go flat and you need to run them flat between charges.
The NiMh bats can be recharged at any time because unlike the NiCads, they do not have a memory effect.

I have not had any charger problems with either the DS or the Duracell batts but I did try a set of 2800mah radio control car batteries (don't recall the brand) and they caused the stock charger to get a bit too hot for my liking.
2100 - 2300 mah batteries seem to be ideal in that they do not overload the charger, they recharge quite quickly and will run the detector for a reasonable time. A set of heavy duty duracell alkalines will probly give the longest running time. I have tried a set of Lithium batts and all I can say is don't waste your money on them; They are not cost effective or in other words, they cost far too much and do not give much of an increase in operating time in the Infinium.
