Infinium and Stainless steel...?

OK, apparently I don't know my machine as well as I thought I did. I had it out hunting and ran across some stainless steel screws. I thought I would check to see what sound they would cause and much to my surprise, it made no sound at all. It was as though they were plastic. Granted, they were only a #8 pan head about 1/2 inch long, but I would have expected the Infinium to make some kind of noise. I tried it with the stock DD and 8" mono. This is really the first time I have had it out since having it repaired (Summer was just too busy at work this year... not complaining though.) Guess I should have tested it in the back yard before hitting the field. Never really thought to test it with stainless screws anyway, so have no idea if it ever picked them up. At the moment, not being able to detect stainless steel screws is not a problem, but I would like to know if it is a bug or a feature. I was under the impression that the Infinum picked up everything metal regardless.

I probably should add, that I was on South Padre Island, Texas and had balanced it for the surf. (There are also some small flecks of rusty iron that will stick to a magnet that the Infinium seems unable to pick up. My ATP goes insane when it hits them... ProPointer doesn't see these flecks either.)

Thanks
John

High qual SS does not register well on a PI with pulse delays setup for goldfield high iron mineralisation ground work.

So yer Inf is fine and normal. Higher PPS PIs may respond stronger.

I replace my coil attaching plastic bolts with good qual SS because it is stronger and the threads will not strip as easily as the placky wunz.

That's good info.

Thank you very much.
