indian head #'s

I have yet to find an indian head penny in the field.I have to believe that i am passing them up for some reason( thinking they are pop cans or such). What are the id #'s you have found with the etrac in your personal hunting experience.Do they bounce around in manual but stay pretty solid in auto? Thanks charlie hh

Usually they hit about 12-37, just like a zincoln. Generally you'll want to dig a 12-37 that's four or five inches down. Indians are variable though, I've had them hit at 10-35 or 13-39, so I've dug a lot of iffy signals on the chance they're an indian, sometimes I get one.

I get them around 12-34 or 12-35 usually and not higher. It really depends on the soil conditions. They'll be high pitched tone though and often deep on the depth meter.

I agree with Filo, most of the indians that I've found have been either 12-34 or 12-35. I have found a couple at 12-36.

Thanks, when i wrote this thread i meant to ask about the tone and filo was reading my mind.

I have dug so many all over in numbers it isn't funny. The one I dug Saturday was a solid 01-36 both directions, after locating the penny, I re swept the cool over the Hole in quick mask and there was nothing there. Indians are somewhat like nickels in mY experience, in meaning that many times they bounce around a lot. I have dug 167 Indians with my etrac in a year and a half and would say I have a bit of experience on how they act.

Here in northern Michigan every indian I've ever found has been bouncy between 12-36 or 12-37 then around 9-36 then 11-40's. I don't think I've ever dug any that didn't bounce like that. Still can't figure it out unless It's just my particular detector? What I mean is they all bounce almost exactly alike with the same number combo. When the numbers bounce like that I know right away i have a indian.

I have not dug as many Indians as Goes4ever but hey who has! But I have dug some from 08-34 12-34 to the classic 12-35

i have only found two here in central cali, both of em were 14-34 i actually put one back into the bottom of the plug covered it up and rescanned... same numbers so now i dig ALL 14-34's in hopes of another one they're one of my favorite coins.... i also get a lot of bottle caps and zincolns anywhere from 11-32 to 14-40 sounds like their all over the place :(

Almost all mine have been a 34 on conductive side...but I have seen 38 and 36's too. Fe's are all over from 01 to 17's.

I got a 1897....came in at 2-30....it was deep!.......but sounded good!.....manual sens...27........gain at 16.

I've found approx. (30) Indian Cents so far - seems like a lot of them came in the FE 12 - CO 34 / 25 zone - but like others have said - the target ID #'s on Indians can be all over the place.
