Indian Head Penny

What was the last year they made Indian head pennys? Yesterday a Buffalo nickle, today a 1913 Wheat Penny.I think I might be getting close to finding some Indian Head Pennys, with my 3D. Thanks,Roger

Like Dan said 1909 was the last year for IHs. Also, it was the 1st year for wheats, so 1909s can be either. Also Barber coins (dimes, quarters, halves) were minted from 1892-1916, so you got a chance for them also. IHs started in 1857, so you have to get REAL old to get before them. Look at the link I'm posting. It's the price list for coins. But you can also look at it and find the years certain coins fall into.
Good Luck with your 3D. I've found 50+ IHs and 38 silver with mine in the last 13 months.

Indian Head Cents weren't minted until 1859. The first "small" cents were the Flying Eagle variety, minted from 1856 through 1858.
Hope this helps.
Good Hunting,

Of course, an 1857 Indian Head would be worth a fortune. <img src="/metal/html/biggrin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":D">
How's your hunting going? My season is just getting started. I'm planning on giving the 1270 a workout this year to see if I can "live" with it.
Take care,

Otto,
My hunting season is going well. Just check out my WOO-HOO post below. In addition to the LC and Seated, I'm up to 19 IHs and 18 silvers for 2005 so far.
I TOTALLY agree with your post on the Fisher forum about picking your sites. Why pick a park that's had 200 detectors on it when there's a 125 yr old house half a block away that's never been detected. I think some people are just afraid to ask permission. I have no problem with it. The worst that can happen is they say NO. Whoopee, I'll just walk across the street and ask the next one. I have been averaging a few silvers and a few IHs per home. It totals up after a while. I find most of my coins within 4" of the surface because I'm detecting virgin ground.

I agree with you about the site. There's a ghost town I hunt that hasn't got a coin newer than 1881 in it, and they are about surface to 3 inches. It's quite a shock to be hunting along, and then eyeball an 1864 Indian, or 1867 Seated Dime laying on the ground. Lots of fun.
Sounds like you're doing ok too. <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
