Indian Head Penny

crabby

New member
I have never found an Indian head penny. What reading could I expect if I were to run my coil over one?

Crabby, When I've come acrossed my Indians, the VDI is VERY jumpy and has been in the bouncing range of 40's to 74. And I do mean jumpy Almost as if it's one of those "iffy" bouncy signals. But it's a good iffy signal. Clear as mud? Hope that helps. HH, Nancy

The thing with Indians is they are made with the same composition as Wheaties. What differentiates a higher percentage running in the lower VDI's is the same for all older/deeper cents. How the ground has had it's way with them. I've found them at nine to ten inches with readings as low as 7 to 9 and shallower with normal cent readings into the 70's. Go slow and dig all deep signals (nonferrous) that conditions allow for. For some reason, old copper coins, close into roots, have lower VDI readings. (Bet it has something to do with all that active moisture movement.) Indians were circulated into the 50's and show up in that era of sites too. Good luck...lots of Indians are still out there!

Hello All I'm New Here
on my MXT a copper Indian Reads in the Low 60's.if your in coin mode You'll pass them up as Screwcaps. but only the newer ones were actually made out of copper.the older they are the Higher the Nickel content in them. so I would have to say if you want to find Indians dig everything above say 18. you can buy worn out common Indians from EBay Pretty Cheap to Practice on.
