Indian head penny slump over after 2 1/2 years

It's been 2 1/2 years since I have found an Indian head penny till Wednesday night. I pulled a 1873 open 3 key date penny in f- vf condition. Hell if I have to wait 2 1/2 years to pull these kinds of coins well worth the wait.

I have had good luck with silver coins it's been the Indians that have been a problem to me. lol

Great job on the semi key Indian. That's a memorable one for sure!

Is your area not old or are u maybe not familiar how indians come in at on the etrac? Because that is one coin that can come in at some funky numbers if very deep. I have dug a lot of deep indians or indians on edge as low as 01-31, they tend to bounce a lot of the scale if real deep.

I would say it's me and the learning of the e-trac. This is only my second year with it. All my buddies hunt with the e-trac and have had luck with Indians. As a matter of fact the guy I was hunting with had just dug an Indian and had told me it came in at 6-34. It wasn't 5 min. later I had a 7- 35 7 -36 and that's when I dug the coin. Truly a learning experience.

that is a classic indian signal, they are rarely ever on the 12 line, almost always 6 or 7

Indians are always desireable, congrats on breaking your slump.

I'll re-enforce G4ever's comments, Indians especially deep ones can come in all over the ID spectrum. The thing to watch is that conductive number, if the ferrous number is nowhere near or bouncing nowhere near 35, ignore it, then pay close attention to the Conductive number and dig.
Found many many deep Indians and other deep coins with a Ferrous1 (sometimes jumpy) and jumpy Conductive IDs usually from 30 on up. I always dig those if deep.
The eTRAC loses ferrous accuracy well before conductive accuracy the deeper the target.

As i said here many times before, keep a keen eye on that depth indicator, its an integral part of the equation on whether to dig or not.
