Indian Head Pennies

Well I guess I could say that I'm real lucky.. About five years ago while visiting some people in Utah, I was walking down an alley way with my detector and came across a loud sound from my detector. At first I thought it might be an aluminum can because the tone was so loud , but I dug it up anyway and to my surprise I found an old cigar box completely full of Indian head pennies. About a 125 of them to be exact... Wow! What a joy that was for me that day. Later I found a silver pocket watch about four inches in the ground.. Not a bad days find, I would say.. I didn't even have an MXT at the time, infact it was a 4900 coin shooter with no meter to tell me what was in the ground.. Cool, Huh! Cliff :jump:

That would be a happy day, I like finding Indian head pennies, found 8 Indian head pennies and 4 V nickles in an old Prince Albert can a couple months ago. Man, 125 of them that would be a find congratulations.:clapping:

Received one as change, now that's good luck. someone must have rolled one up in a pennies roll by mistake. Very good

Awesome, I've only found one.

That makes me think what we might be missing by having a meter. 125 Indians or a silver watch might be overloads or something different on the meter and many would say to themselves, "ah just junk". My first serious detector was a White's 3900, a beep and dig detector and in the first few days of using it, I found 49 wheat's all lined up with a little bit of the wrapper left on them. I went back to my hole the next day to find #50, but it wasn't there.

Those were great finds Cliff and goes to show, you just never know what your next find will be. That is part of the fun of the hobby, the surprise in the ground that you don't expect.

Thanks! And I almost didn't dig it up thinking it was junk.. That's happened to me more than once using the old 4900 coin shooter. Thanks for the comment.. Cliff

Now that's what I call an exciting day! Would have loved to seen your face when you opened the cigar tin. COOL. Do you still have the Indians? Some are worth quite a bit of money. Thanks for sharing and HH to all, Nancy

The answer to your question; No I don't have them anymore. I was offered a hundred and fifty percent of what they were all worth at the time I found them, so I turned them loose for that.. And if I could find that many now, would I keep them, not sure, but more than likely I would let them go again for the same bargain that I got before.. I still have over two thousand of the coins I have found over the years and haven't thought about getting rid of them..
