Indian Head cent SmartFind/Digital readings?

Hi,

With an SE and the Pro coil, I was curious what readings folks were getting for copper Indian Head cents? I assume they fall into the Zincoln range, so maybe aren't pegged in the upper right hand corner on SmartFind.

Any example readings at depth? (like 6 inches or more).

You are correct..and depending on the vintage as older Indian head cents read lower...Digital 25-26 ....usually to the left of the upper right hand corner.

Mike Mountray has some excellent screens for your perusal http://www.frontiernet.net/~jvokes/exscreens.htm

Time to do some air testing my friend as it appears you are still in the learning process.

Do remember above is typical and turned coin, bad ground, next to junk can easily alter its position..

Six inches is moderate depth for an Explorer and should be as stated above.

An Injun' can read pretty much anywhere on the smartfind screen...and I mean anywhere:biggrin:

I found over 100 of them last year and I don't belive ANY of them hit in the upper right area like a zincoln does. Seriously...I don't think I had but 2 or 3 out of the 100 that hit like a textbook indian head should.

Probably 95% of the ones I found hit about halfway down the right edge of the smartfind screen...then did the cursor flutter towards the upper center of the screen.

Kind of like walking "up the stairs" to the left.

They do have their own unique sound though so once you find one or 2...you'll start popping tem out if thery are there to be found.

Any other questions...feel free to slip me a pm.

Excellent info, thanks much! I know that the IHs can be all over the map from my previous detecting experience, but I needed a place to start on the SE. Way too much fun.

You are right Bryce 9 out of 10 times i can tell just by their unique sound. With my THRE TONE settings deep ones sound a little lower than a memorial but they are strong tones. I cant tell you how many ive dug that hit just above that bottle cap range like Bryce said. Get ready to dig a few rusted bolts as well in that area. Im not sure air testing IH's help much for those deep ones. Watch your mid- right side and check your depth meter... garrentee you will find a deep one.

Naturally because of its different alloys during the years it was made along with deterioation depending on your ground just going to be in a wide range on the screen and usually the audio is what makes one dig...
