Don't forget that was in the 50's when you could take large sums of cash out without raising a red flag. Here comes the FBI to confiscate that ill gotten loot.
The bills have never been circulated meaning a bank job?
Sorry there is a part 1 to the story I believe..It would be interesting to know more about how this money came to be here and never was retrieved by the person that hid it.
People find caches like this, but do not know the history behind it for the most part.
A friend of mine recently sold his Parent's house after his Dad died last year and the new owner found an envelop with $2.400 in it jammed up in a corner next to a closet door.
It was found while removing carpet in the room.
He called my friend and returned the money to him since he knew it had to belong to his parents as they had lived in the house since it was built around 1958.
The way that cash box was concealed, if these people were not aware of it being there, it may never have been discovered.

Yep I was thinking the same like the couple who found the can of gold coins in California uncirculated condition after a mudslide they thought it may have been from a robbery some of those coins went for serious bucks but it’s hard to prove where they came from so some went up for auction..One good thing is that only the guy that found the stash can be identified… not the others involved in the search…good idea they did that… no photos or details about the house either other than the attic..
I’m sure this was done on purpose for that very reason…

Very cool stories thanks!!!Really cool. I've done quite a few remodels on old , pre 50's houses ,, never found that much money before.
Tearing out some old kitchen cabinets,, I found 2 Standing liberty halves ,, one old house from the early 1900s , I found some old paper grocery store bags that had folded newspapers placed in the bags just sitting on a shelf in the root cellar. I started to just throw them in the dumpster,, but curiosity hit , and I started opening up some of the papers and I started finding some pieces of really intricate solid silver jewelry,, it was like really thin strings of silver poured into the shape of a lizard ,, and one of a butterfly,, and a few other pieces ,, still have them packed in a box somewhere. Have found all kinds of WW11 advertisements/ troop support doodads from local businesses in town from that era ,, with 2 and 3 digit company phone numbers . Found original sets of the old blue paperd house blueprints. One of my favorite finds ,, don't know why, ,,, but it looks like a 60's era photo of a fairly attractive mid 20s young lady posing topless out in the woods somewhere . Really nice ,, if ya get my drift ,,, but I kinda figured it may have possibly been sent to a boyfriend serving in the military over in Vietnam. Just a thought tho.
Sorry,, hope I haven't hijacked your thread here Mr Mkus ,, but doing my type of work,, doing the demo in those old homes is my favorite part of the job . Heres something I figured out a while back ,, if you're ever demo- ing in an old bathroom, with the old metal medicine cabinets that has like a little coin slot looking spot on the back wall of the metal cabinet,,, be careful if you remove that cabinet,, I removed one once ,, and tore out the wall down to the floor ,, and there were probably a hundred of those old double edged Gillette's razor blades. That coin slot is the disposal slot for them old razor blades.
Thanks for the memories.
I have to agree…. I would have kept it a little more covert.I'm sorry but anyone who finds a stash like that and puts it out there like this is not to bright.
