In need of info

I have searched several forums on the subject of the use of the MXT on wet beach sand and in less than knee deep ocean water according to some it is hard to balance and is very chatty is that true?. I'm totally confused about the info. How is the mxt in these types of situations thanks for your help Also considered the sovereign gt very mixed reviews.

Basicly the same question was asked and answered two days ago...............

Hi william1,the only way to go if you want high performance on wet sand is a minelab multi frequency unit. You will get ok results with a whites machine but a minelab sov gt will run rings around them when the going gets tough in the wet sand.

Not true Neil, All major manufactures make water hunting detectors that run very stable in the wet sand and shallow water, White's has two waterproof detectors, a VLF and a PI. The DFX is also a fantastic dual frequency beach hunter, ideal for the wet/dry sand, but I wouldn't take any detector that is not waterproof in the water. The MXT is not junk either in the wet sand, not to mention the TDI. The only problem I can think of is if he hunts in black sand, but even then, adjustments can be made.

I've tried my MXT here at the New Jersey shore a couple times, and no problem at all in wet sand or shallow water. I do agree with Larry on the risk of hunting in water. One OOPS! and your machine is done, particularly places like here that have an active surf.

I have found it to be very unstable in the wet sand. It needs to be constantly balanced. I love the MXT but not in wet sand. Now that's not to say it won't find stuff. It will but it's aggravating.

Hi Larry,i was a little harsh to say that the minelabs would run rings around whites machines but i was not including dedicated beach machines or pi units.I think what Bill is asking for is a general purpose machine that is good on the beach.I own a whites M6 and find that this has very good performance on the beach even in the wet sand.....it runs very stable even at fairly high sensitivity settings. However,if we are talking about ultimate performance on wet sand i still believe that minelabs multi frequency units hold the edge over other detectors.I've used many different detectors on the beach and hunted with many other people who have had a wide variety of machines(including whites and minelabs) and what we have found is that minelabs are consistently more stable over a wide variety of conditions and are ultimately deeper in the wet sand.So if anybody is looking for a general purpose detector(one that will do both inland sites and the beach)but are favouring the highest possible wet sand performance, minelabs multi frequency units are still the way to go.
PS,this is a totally un-biased opinion.....i own a whites machine and think it's one of the best machines out there today but i'm not worried about saying if another machine has beaten it in one area or another....i'm just being honest.
