You just can't beat the discrimination characteristics of the XLPro. Pulled these out of an old town site, literally filled with nails, aluminum and scraps of old tin roofs. You have to listen to the detector and when in doubt, take a look at the meter. But at the end of the day, the XLPro always comes through. May not be a depth monster, but it sure knows how to discriminate. JMHO HH Randy

Thanks. For open field hunting, I like the 5.3 coil. It don't cover as much ground as the 950 or 8-inch. But it separate targets much better. I also believe it goes as deep as the 8-inch coils I have owned. (not as deep as the 950) If this were a modern park with lots of modern trash, I would opt for the 350 Snooper coil. Even better target separation than the 5.3 Bullsey. (or BlackMax or BlueMax 600) But it would take forever to cover this 20 acre patch.

I typically run my XLPro in Hot Rock reject, faint Threshold tone, Discriminate just below preset, Signal balance a bit above preset and Lock in the GB. Depending on the site, I can sometimes boost the Sig Bal up to about the 3:00 position on mine. My theory is to run it as hot as I can without a lot of falsing. I don't mind if it chirps now and then. That lets me know it is still working! HH Randy

Sounds good, I just got a new 5.3 coil and hope it will seperate better. Alot of mineralization here and its a challenge to find anything deep anyways so I figure to focus on what the 5.3 will come up with.
How would you rate the recovery rate on your XL PRO?

I'm not sure what you mean by recovery rate. But, if you mean the number of targets I dig that are what I expect them to be, I would rate the XLPro among the best. Maybe not 100% because sometimes odd shaped target can fool anyone. But I would rate my recover rate well over 90-95%. There are a few subtle things that help me determine the targets, besides the reading of the meter. If I find a target that reads solid and the meter indicates it is a coin, I pull the trigger and sweep back over the same target. IF the sound pattern is narrower than with the XLPro in the GEB Disc mode (trigger normal), it will likely be a coin. IF the sound is wider with the trigger pulled, it will likely NOT be a coin. Another trick I use is to watch for a slight leftward deflection of the meter, when X-ing over the target, while in GEB Disc mode. It is very slight movement. But when it happens, it probably won't be a coin. If you would like further explanation of what I am talking about, send me an email. HH Randy

THAT 5.3 WILL GO DEEEEP.
I RUN MY XL PRO VERY HOT AND CAN PICK UP DIMES AT 8 PLUS WITH THE 5.3.
that is deeeep for a 5.3 coil.
The key is to run with very low DISC. OR NONE IF YOU ARE GOING DEEEEEP.:detecting:

I noticed that on sunday when I turned the disc to zero from the first nickel preset, the stock coil performed much better. Quarters signals seem to be much clearer. HH
