In-line probe?

Captain Hook

Anyone using an inline probe on there X-Terra 70? If so, what make and model? Thanks.

I'm not aware of any that is made because the IC in the coil is proprietary.

Thanks BarnacleBill, I couldn't find any listed anywhere.

I guess you could always use a Uni-Probe and treat it like an inline? I will be honest I liked the idea but the $$ scared me away. I will stick to my Pro Pointer and be a very happy camper, Beale.

it is almost irratating that they don't offer one for the x-70, it makes no sense at all???
it burns me up when i am hunting with my partner and he uses his sunray probe on his DFX and I am stuck using a handheld pinpointer. What is minelabs deal, they have one for the explorer, why not the xterra series?

so basically it is minelab's fault because they won't release the chip? sounds like bad business. They read these forums, they know customers want a probe, I am not seeing a good reason for them to not allow it?

The same reason Apple is not going to hand over the I-phone firmware/OS to an accessory maker. It'd immediately be sold to the highest bidder like Nokia, Samsung etc. Of course no one would know how they came by it, but money would change hands like it always does.

And there's a little bit of a belly button issue here. People who like inline probes seem to assume that everyone likes inline probes, or that if they tried them they would like them. But there are very technical & practical reasons for people not using/liking inline probes. And I believe the percentage of people using them in the overall market is tiny. So I think ML has made a cost/benefit ratio decision of how many sales they would gain versus the coil sales losses they would incur should the technology be released. If X-Terra sales flatten at some point I'm sure they would examine licensing it again in order to eke out a few more years of product life.

Thats right. As for me, you can keep the inline probe. I don't care for the extra weight to swing and my hand held has no wires.
