quibbly

I am going to purchase either the 3030 or whites v3i. Not sure but leaning towards the CTX 3030. Any advice?

Also looking for people to hunt with.

Either of the two are great! My advice would be swing slow and listen to what the detector is telling you. Dig everything at first to understand the tones. I have a CTX 3030 and use GoneHuntings settings. I am pulling more and more great coins and relics out of the ground. Good luck with your choice.

I keep looking at the ctx but like whites repair pricing and service. Ctx is self update via usb. Since i am new, its a hard choice. I want a great product and easy to use.

Both look like great products. 3030 seems more balanced

I use both units and both are top of the line and each excel with their own specialties. This is the wrong forum (CTX3030) to compare the two but I will say that for deep silver hunting, especially in iron, I haven't found a better detector than the CTX.........

What type of hunting will you be doing? If you want a great machine and $ is not a factor then the CTX is what you want. It is waterproof (V3i is water resistant NOT water proof) and can be taken to the beach and into the water (no water hunting with the v3i). The CTX with the new salt water update was recently tested by jas415 at Galveston with NO issues. Minelab does issue updates and changes to the function and performance of the CTX. Whites? Well they did offer an update from a V3 to V3i (free if you were a pretty recent purchaser when it was released) otherwise more $ for the upgrade/update. No USB connection for V3i. On the CTX you can modify/create new programs for the CTX on your computer and load them into the CTX or share/trade programs with other users. V3i? Nope. You program the detector through a series of menus on the detector itself.

However... IF you are new to metal detecting the CTX is a very BIG step. It will confound you, frustrate you and then AMAZE you when your brain and your CTX get in sync. In the Houston area, we are fortunate to have a very good Minelab dealer located in Spring Texas. They can answer most of your questions even if you decide on another brand. They can also help you get up to speed with it.

Even though I announced that this is not the forum to do comparisons, it didn't seem to soak in for others.........:stars:

This thread is moved to the Metal Detecting Forum where comparisons are allowed.

LOL

Both detectors are very capable and have a learning curve that can take a while to learn especially in getting the machine to where it performs the way you want it to. If you could do a hands on at a dealer or a club meeting in your area, that would be best before dropping some major cash....... Take Care, Richard

Both are a serrious investment into the hobby. Just go to the Minelab website and look for where to buy. There are several dealers in Texas with one being very close to Houston (like just north of it off I-45 in Spring). Best to visit a dealer, put one in your hands and get some good advice from someone who has used the CTX on land and on the beach.

Best of luck quibbly. lookin foreward to hearing from you hear on the forum. pics are always welcome :)
