In ground vs air test depths?

Hi Folks,

Are you seeing better "in ground" depths with your X50 versus air test depths?

The reason I ask --- I have recently acquired one and can't get air test depths on targets that others have posted as "dug targets" in the field. I admit, I have yet to put it through it's paces in the field and was just curious. Also, air tests on coins on edge are extremely poor. Hopefuly it performs better in the real world than in my den. I have a big trip coming up & don't need to be depending on it if it needs fixing.

I know I need to get it in the field (I will soon) but would like some feedback if mine acts different than yours.

Have you minimized your ground balance for air testing? Remember the unit will subtract ground balance from target signal. Also if you are doing air tests you should probably do them in all metal mode with no discrimination. Just a thought....

Hi, Al.

To be honest, the only air testing I have done is to so I could learn the tones & target ID's. I've never put any stock in air tests with regard to depth because they really aren't relevant. All I can tell you is that I have dug coins up to 12" deep with both the X-Terra 30 & 50. I am confident that you will do the same once you get out in the field.
