My trusty Explorer XS, the 1800's coin magnet had a nose for gold last week. I swear that machine is a devining rod or something, park car at random spot on 1.5 mile long beach. Walk straight out to the waters edge, turn left and detect 30 feet then whamo 1.09 carat diamond ring. The "We buy gold and diamonds" shop owner tested the stone with an electronic tester, he said it was real. Value? He said he'd pay $2,500 to $3,000. Retail $4,000 to $5,000.

I think I read somewhere that you modified a Explorer to be water proof. If so, was that what you were using?

I have been very happy with the Excalibur that I have had since April. But, I can't help wonder how a Explorer engine might be in the water. In the water might mean not having a meter (no problem on Excal). Not having the meter would be different, but the Explorer tones would be a improvement for my ears.

At any rate, that is a great find! Congratulations!

I need to be closer to the ocean so I can find the BIG gold and diamonds, but for now the local lakes are it.

How long did it take you to pick up your Jaw from the Beach when you realized what you found??? That find would have made my month easily! Good Luck and HH on that Beach!
