Impressed with the Silver Umax.

I must say using it it pure fun, gave it some good hard testing on my local beach, where I have been using a vintage detector and a Detectorpro Wader.
Performance was better than the Wader for depth and the ability to find smaller objects, in disc. mode. I even took it into the shallow water, the coil sliced thru the water
easier than the Wader. While awter hunting was toying with the idea that the Silver would make an inexpensive water detector if enclosed in a waterproof housing.
Just a thought, the Silver is supposed to be for my wife...... as I have an Eldorado coming my way.

Did notice when the battery power drops to low 8 volts or less, the Silver will false like there was constant EMI around. Did find a trick to make it quiet and still huntable.
Switch to all metal mode, back off the sensitivity to about 5, then, turn the disc. control higher until the falsing becomes less noticable. For some reason the disc. control becomes like a fine sensitivity tuner. Still had fairly good depth beach hunting. Disc control does not seem to have any effect with batteries that are new. Don't know why this works.

Yeah Right we have all heard that one! FOR YOUR WIFE better hope the missus doesn't go on the forum LOL

The new Silvers are great detectors, I traded for one a little while back ..... the only thing I didn't like was the lower tone the new units have. I also have one of ther older Silver Sabre units that has a great higher pitched tone that I guess has grown on me over the years. I also noticed that the tone control on my Tejon stays set at the same pitch too :) My ears just don't hear like they once did.... sad fact of life I guess lol...

I really like my Silver
