Impressed with first 30 mins w/ my Silver uMax

My first (and short) hunt today with the new Silver uMax. Best hit was a bent and corroded penny at 5-1/2". What surprised me was the sensitivity to very small items - finding copper rivets off bluejeans? Maybe I should bring a strainer on my next hunt! I think I am going to like this Silver a lot....

Good finds,
Stephen

I love mine, too. At first it was hard to keep the disc down to it's lowest setting-it made things so nice in the foil setting. But a small handful of gold rings has a way of convincing you to put up with some of the trash and learn the unique trash sounds at this low level. I even learned something new about it yesterday after 2 years. I left the sensitivity control at it's minimum 'cause I just wasn't in the mood to dig deep>I was astounded to find that not only did I not lose any appreciable depth-but the less gain made it quieter. That's where I leave it now.

Thanks, slingshot - just getting back to the MDing hobby, so any tips are appreciated!. Lots of rust on my technique. I'm getting better on the sounds, trash vs. good target, but, as everyone says, "I'ts only as good as the operator", so I know I still have learning to do. Definately not the machine's fault, I love this Silver already.

I've never used the Silver UMax, but from what I've read it has a lot of fans who absolutely love it. What is impressive is that this is a low cost machine that so many people use and stick with as a favorite detector.

Don't be too impressed by the copper rivets, though. Those suckers hit hard with most detectors I think. They sure do with my Cibola and Compadre.

As a newbie with less than six months I've got a whole lot to learn, but I can tell you that you do get much better at telling the sounds apart with practice. Good luck!
