New For all you beach hunters. Where is the most productive places to hunt on the beach?

Low tide area
High tide area
Dry sand
A place in the middle between high and low tide where shells tend to collect?

Look people this is a very important question for me.

well if i was going to hunt , low tide whear the beach is being eroded by the waves. or if you can find the rip tide gullys wear its cut into the sand but make sure no rip tide is active i think that would be a good spot to try

If you hunt in the dry sand which I won't then hunt the blanket line as people tend to shake out their blankets at the end of the day..

I hunt mainly in the water and mainly in deep water troughs or behind sand pushed towards shore.

Gentle there, Mark. Be patient - most people don't like to be told what you want. Surf pirates especially... most of them have paid their dues long ago.

Besides, you have several ideas already:

- Neck Deep in the Mine at Low Tide! (This means in the water at chest deep)

- low tide where the beach is being eroded by the waves.
- Rip tide gulleys where its cut into the sand - making sure to stay clear of the outer rip current.

- In the dry sand... the blanket line as people tend to shake out their blankets at the end of the day.

- In the water and mainly in deep water troughs or behind sand pushed towards shore.

And dont forget these:
In the "Lane"... where the damp sand meets the water. If pretty girls in bikinis are strolling by, then you are in the lane.

At entrances where people are juggling all their stuff before entering the beach.

Around lifeguard stations

Around volleyball courts

Around seaward side of pilings, rock outcroppings or other beach anomalies.

First of all, everyone here who has consistent success has put hours and probably YEARS into learning where the best places are to hunt - nobody just hands that information out to someone who asks in a demanding tone.

Secondly, you've gotten lots of information here already and if you did a bit of searching and reading you'd find LOADS of nuggest of information throughout not only this forum but NUMEROUS sites all over the internet.

Thirdly, a successful TH'r has alot of things going for them, not the least of which is a decent machine, a good location, persistence and some degree of luck - however the #1 reason in my book for the success of certain people is because they KNOW THEIR MACHINES - they know how to tweak it, they know what every little sound means and how to get everything possible from it. In most cases a new hunter can be put in the "good part" of the beach with an expensive detector and be beat out over and over by a seasoned veteran with "his" machine wherever he chooses to hunt.

Finally, every beach, lake, pond etc... has it's own characteristics of where people congregate... what kinds of people congregate there... how far do they go in the water... what kind of bottom is there... is there a tide or is it a lake... etc... Take the basics of information you've already been pointed to here and head out there and learn your machine and your hunting spots - it's the only way to be successful

There are no "X marks the spot" treasure maps. Expecting someone to hand one over is the same as getting nothing.

There is one place, however, where you can learn what you need to be successful. Here's the link:

Thanks for the info

Not mentioned here yet, but I'm sure in past posts - if an area is not productive, keep moving until you find a spot that IS. When you start digging good stuff, SLOW DOWN and search that area well. Sometimes you find a productive spot on the beach and it doesn't look any different than the barren area just 30 feet away. Be careful of troughs in the water, they can really drop off.

Take care - JeffOH
