Impedance too high?

I have a chance to pick up like new set of Koss PRO-4AA titanium headphones cheap locally. They are rated at 250 ohms. I see many MXT (and treasure hunters in general) swear by the 60 Ohm TD 81 and TD 80. Is there a drawback to the much higher impedance. Rated at 98 decibels and distortion below .1 too. Seems they would be outstanding, but opinions appreciated before spending good battery money on them. I dont think they have a volume control. That concerns me. aarchie

Upon suggestion from someone at another forum, I decided to take my MXT over to test drive the headphones. I was amazed at the difference in quality compared to my current pair. When I tried different gains on a couple of different metals from tiny, to coin sized to appliance sized. I quickly agreed with Monte about the MXT needing volume controls. The Koss Pro's certainly sounded good in average, controlled, and near perfect circumstances, but I can see more often than not many circumstances where hearing might be a problem in the real world. I will pass on the phones without a way to control the headset volume. Thanks for the heads up M...... aaarchie

Would you believe I just ordered in a new set of these to try as I need the volume. I do wonder if they will be louder than what I use which are 150 ohms headphones. If you want a good set of headphones Sun Ray pros do a great job, has a limiter circuit so you don't get blasted with loud hits and have a volume control for each ear.
