Image Storage questions

A friend told me that a portable device was available which allows for digital camera operators to remove the flash card from the camera and download the image into the device, which copies them on a DVD. Supposedly, the portable device runs off batteries and allows the user to download the images directly from the flash card in the field, instead of having to connect directly to the computer.
The closest thing I can find is something that is like a external hard drive that you plug into the ISB port on the camera or CF reader and store the images on the portable hard drive.
Anyone have any information on the former device?
Secondly, when I try to download images to a website, they come out filling the entire screed, instead of smaller sized photos. This seems to happen irregardless of whether or not I resize them in Photoshop. What can I do about this?
Lastly, what's the difference in the various JPEG quality modes, such as Large Fine, Normal Fine, Medium Fine, Medium Normal, and Small Fine, Normal Fine, as far as the ultimate image is concerned.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Greg,
I'm not familiar with a device that one can download images to in the field then copy them to a DVD in the field. I believe that is what you are asking.
We have a FlashTrax for downloading images into while out shooting.

Just last week I bought the HP IPAQ 6315 PDA which I can download my images into and edit them as needed and than send them anywhere I want with a wireless hookup via T-Mobile or Wi-Fi or Satellite transmission. I had to buy a specific software pkg for the PDA to edit the images. Amazing Technology.
