I'm trying Tesoro .........................

...........after many years with Whites. Lighter weight and better discrimination is what is getting me to leave........ lots of my friends say I'm making a mistake. I briefly tried a Cortes and I was impressed, that is what I have ordered. I search mainly dry sand and parks/ soccer fields. I have a bit of an uneasy feeling because so many people tell me the Cortes is not up to par........did I make a mistake? I hope I didn't!!!

Everybody has their own style of hunting and what they like in a machine. If you tried the Cortes and were impressed, then whats to question? You can run the disc way down and use the meter to ID good targets. Large iron doesnt fool the Cortes, there is way to tell iron every time. Let your buddies swing the heavier Whites machines. The Cortes doesnt have extreem depth but it has very good depth, and you can get a variety of coil sizes for it. Lightweight, easy to use, life time warranty, and its fun to hunt with.

and the ones who told you to be leery probably never tried a Cortes. I have the Deleon (same circuitry) and love mine over anything else I have used. Depending on which units you used before, Tesoro's are easy to use and quick to set up. The circuitry is fast, and you can pinpoint quite easily in DISC mode. The biggest hurdle is the ID and that really doesn't take long to get used to. The segments on the Cortes are roughly half the height of the Deleon. But you get the text display for targets, something the Deleon doesn't have.

At first I had a little trouble IDing and comparing the tone, then after about a week or so, WHAM, it kicked right in, made sense all of a sudden and now I wouldn't have anything else. I quit looking for something better, as I had all I wanted in the Deleon.

Same circuitry as Cortes. If Scully says he likes it better than DeLeon, it has to be a very nice machine. You won't be sorry, Ivan.

They both have the exact same ciruitry so depth and ability is the same, but with the Cortes you get a lot more info about your target (more target groupings) which can help you decide whether to dig or not. Plus you have few more features like the notch, back light, and SUM mode.

Good points on the Cortes, Scully, but one thing the Deleon has over the Cortes is a larger viewing of those bars. I would give up the text description line on top, to have the bars go higher and the numbers bigger. For some of us, the Cortes screen is hard to see without glasses.

I sure hope so as will will be trying one later today or tomorrow. Just picked up a new Cortes last night and got the 5.75 concentric to go with it.
I know I can't expect it to go as deep as my Tejon or Cibola, but that's not what I got it for. There are areas that I won't dig as deep and that's where the Cortes comes in.
I might have a problem with it. My son is way bigger than me, and if he tries it and likes it, I would have to come up with a strategic plan to regain possession - wait ! I'm the one buying lunch and he likes to eat more than me - :starwars:
