okay im the nooby. my dad passed away suddenly and i have his new detector in the box, from radio shack . one neighbor said shire thing, take a look around until i found something, then its get offn my land for i call the cops on you...right quair these folks are. so what do i do now to prevent this from happening again??? agreement on paper or can i write up a contract and permission slip??? thanks for any advice.. and by the way all i found was an old silver quarter 1939

Avoid those people like the plague. Find some public areas. ask permission and get it in writing if need be for private land.

I've found that some people aren't sure what's involved in MDing. I'd suggest that the next time you ask for permission, be sure that the person understands that you'll be digging holes and assure them that you'll refill the hole, replace the sod and try to leave their property in the condition in which you found it.
HH and good luck!

When looking to MD on private land, I do what togamac said, plus I give them my contact information and get their contact information. I do the same thing when asking for permission to hunt, fish, or trap on someone's land - the worst they can say is "no", but at least I made the effort to establish a working relationship with them. Very, very few people turn me down, and most give me the keys to their place and welcome me anytime.
