I'm still trying!!

After reading that you are having falsing problems, I ran my F2 over some coins I have buried about 4" deep in my back yard. The sensitivity was set at max (5 bars) and only iron discriminated. The grass was slightly wet, so I made sure to scrub against it and I tried raising the coil at the end of swings. I also tried slow and fast swings, but could not get it to false per se. I did get an occasional chirp on what I think are tiny pieces of metal, but never at the ends of swings. Do you know if Skillet has the same falsing problem?

So far, I have only found one area where I had to lower sensitivity from 5 to 4. Was 3 the highest you could go at that football field?

Thanx for checking yours out, gives me something to compare to. I ran mine low on the Sens. to get reduction of the falsing as much as possible and at the higher Sens. my Vibraprobe REALLY sets the F2 into fits (it still does at 3 bars, but not so bad). Once the VP shuts off, the caliope music and some of the falsing stops. Not sure if Skillets does or not, but his coming with a bad stock coil and having to run the BH coil on it, ID and depth numbers way off, control housing sitting 5

I wonder if there is some slight EMI at that school - possible?.

I had to send my F2 in to get the internal speaker replaced, but it's been working great since I got it back. I know the beeps are feeble compared to the Ace 250, but I prefer short crisp beeps to the bell tone. When I first got my Ace 250 it took a while to get used to the bells, but because I used it almost exclusively for quite some time I got to like the sound. Then I bought and used an XT50, M6, T2 and F75 (one can't have too many detectors) and when I came back to the 250, I found I disliked the bells. Haven't used it much since, but it is a great little detector and always finds the goodies.

I just got a PM for a forum member that siad he has a set of Jolly Rogers like I use and the tones are not near as loud thru them as compared to the phones he is using. I'm gonna try some of the other phones and see I can get something not so "feeble" to come thru the headsets. Was gonna do it at lunch break, but I was REAL hungry so I'll check it tomorrow. BTW, I love the Garrett belltone, it's the Sound of Money!! Yes!! I'm too embarrassed to list all the detectors I have, a true addict is always embarrased!!

The F2 is hot off of the edges of the coils. It certainly picks up the eyelets on my boots. I know if the grass is a little wet if and many other detectors can false.

I had been using the DD coil on my Tracker IV. Then I took it off and put it on the F2. About 45 minutes into the hunt it started falsing and caterwailing. At first I thought it might be electrical interference but it had been running fine. I stopped and started checking it out. I discovered that the coil plug had backed out of the housing. It was nearly unplugged. I finished unplugging it and replugged it back in and it worked fine ever-after. What had happened was that when I squatted down to retrieve my targets I was resting the detector across my knee, right at the plug connection which gradually worked it out. I stopped leaning it on the plug.

So if you are experiencing a lot of falsing, I'd look at the connection.

But from reading this post I think you are ok and just learning a new machine. If you have nothing disc'ed or notched out then any falsing you may be experiencing are fast changing ground minerals or fringe targets, or decomposing iron that wants to false high but will not repeat. If you have iron disc'ed out, fringe iron or sometimes even a too fast sweep can cause falsing. Check your ID number for your falses and see what they are. Since the id numbers stay on the screen you can life the coil right up into the air and check the number. Might be a trend you can identify.

Each machine is different and can take time to learn it's particular language. You have enough experience with your Garrett that feels like a pair of old comfortable sneakers. The F2 will take some time to get to the same level. The neat thing is that once it gets to the level it always stays there. I haven't hunted with a Tracker IV in a couple of years, but when I got my new one, it was just as if I'd never quit using it.
