Hey Tom ... just what is this "D200 blues" thing? 
You're taking great photos with your current equipment. Surely the D200 is not "all that much" better than your D70? Heck ... I'm still using a Canon A95 ... of course my photos probably look like it.
However I still enjoy doing what I can.
I have noticed though that it's a good thing to take a break now and then and return with a fresh eye.

Yes ... I know that the D200 is a wonderful camera but I'll bet you I wouldn't notice the improvement over your current camera on photos you post on the internet (print may be a different story???).
If it helps I hope you get the equipment that makes you happy and that you continue to take lots of photos. Seems to be great scenery ( and birds and things) down your way which differs quite a bit from up here and gives your photos that little extra ... at least for me.
