i just bought an x terra 50 last week, and i'm fed up with this thing. it chirps ,beeps, whistles, moans and im done with it. im trading it for an XLT , thats what i used to own a few years ago but had to sell it.
i almost always came home with some goodies with the XLT, even the first trip out !
with this minelab, i havent found anything.
i always liked the icons too.

It sounds like your X-50 has something wrong with it; either it's a bad machine or you've not got it set up right.

I traded an M6 for an X-Terra 50 for my wife and it's the best mid range target ID machine I've ever seen & the best decision I ever made as far as a trade goes. It's stable and super quiet until you're over a target.

Did you try adjusting the Noise Cancel settings? There are 3 to try and see where it gets stable and not erratic. It helps on high RF and other interference. Your ground balance may also be off too. We have some pretty bad dirt down this way and even in it, the X-50 runs quiet when it's set up right. Like any other machine though if the GB is off it will start to get unstable.

Good luck on what you decide to do; if you decide to go with the XLT like you mentioned. I just think I'd try to find out what was wrong with the X-50 because it sounds like something is bad wrong either internally in the machine or via your settings. I have the DVD I could send you if you do not have one; it shows alot of the how to stuff on the machine. My wife and I went to a school yard and soccer field and she done extremely well with it there. She never dug the first piece of trash running Disc pattern 2.

...either you've got a bad unit or it's not set up correctly for your area. Some of the best detectors start out making us want to wrap them around a tree at first. Don't give up without considering ALL things that may be causing that noise. How high were you running your sensitivity?
