I'm pretty hyped up right now

I've been pretty quiet for a while now since I haven't found anything exciting, but today that changed. I mentioned to a neighbor yesterday that I was srrprised that I hadn't found any Mexican coins, considering the large Hispanic population around here. So this morning I pulled one out of a field next to an elementary school. It turned out to be a 1000 peso coin that the money converter says is worth $85.78 as of today. Maybe I'll take another look at that Double D coil. I'll get pictures later this evening, but I gotta tell you, I'm pretty excited about it. Also came up with a handful of clad, an Andy Jacksoon $1 and a cheap ring. And I didn't even cover a quarter of the field. Going back this afternoon when the kids all go home. How do you like me now!?

MrGee I still like you , but if your planning on financing that DD coil with the 1000 peso coin I have what is probably going to bad news, on a nice find.

There were several types of 1000 peso coins and unless you have the one troy ounce gold its basically worthless. Does it have an image of a nun on the obverse side of the the coin? If so its the aluminium bronze version.

If I understand this correctly in 1993 the monetary system was reorganized in Mexico and the pre- 1993 1000 peso coin became = to one new peso or about 9 cents.

Since the money converter you would be using is post the 1993 reorganization, your coin would only be equivalent to only ONE of the new peso's, not 1000 of them, somewhere in the US 10 cents range.

Naw, I don't get my kicks delivering bad news,......I've had to tell too many people that one of their family members was no longer with them, its not easy to do maybe I am just too blunt and straight forward to a fault. As I said it was a nice find unfortunately it's monetary value was grossly misunderstood.

1000 pesos or centavos, I bet you were hyped. If all you covered was a quarter of the field, sounds like u got some good huntng left.That double D coil will find u 1000 more bottle caps . At least your getting out detecting since hell froze over afew months back.

Well that pretty much sucks - like most modern, foreign coins.
Most every other country beat us to the punch producing worthless coinage-as-tokens.

But hey ... beats sitting on the couch!
