Ever sense I started back metal detecting, five months ago, I have tried to search a park close to my house. I found a silver ring by the tennis courts with a BH QD II the first time I went there. Sense then I have had mixed results. I tried to search in the playground but it has wood chips that have chewed up aluminum of all types, thicknesses, sizes and just about every way you can imagine.

I've tried to search that playground with four different MDs and it has defeated me every time. The best I could do was to turn the desc up to cancel out aluminum. I only found a few coins that way.

This morning I decided I was going to try my new Killer Bs with my Euro Sabre and see what happens. I started out as before, just finding these little pieces of aluminum and noticing the distinctive sound they were making. I was determined to keep my discriminator all the way down. The all metal mode was useless in this sea of aluminum. I found a couple of bobby pins. These have an intriguing sound and I can't pass them up. Then I heard a unmistakable round object. It was a button. Nothing special, but it gave me confidence. Then I got a coin. Euro jumped on it!.... I then new that I could easily find round high conductive objects in this aluminum mess. Then I found a couple of ball barrings, bingo. I was even able to hear more than one response at once. I could hear an aluminum response at the same time hearing a target with a different conductive response. Now I could hear low conductive targets. ( A must if you want to find gold jewelery.) I'm getting to the point I can use my Killer Bs to wade through this trashy mess and keep my desc all way down and just keep on cooking.

I got a hard hitting signal and bingo again, only this time it was a woman's silver ring.:)

The ring has been resized and any markings are gone . The resizing doesn't look like silver, it looks like silver solder. You can see it in the photo.

Here is a sample of the trash infesting the wood chips.

I had to go home and be with the family:cheekkiss:.........That's nice too:blush:

I've been afraid of that playground for five months, but not any more:wiggle:

"we have nothing to fear but Fear itself" & I guess you just proved that. Congrats on the finds!

Congratulations on your success in that difficult place Tabdog.

I'm intrigued with your ability to discriminate by sound.

I don't remember that you wrote this way about your Cibola/Silver experience.

I can about hear it for myself in your words.

I wonder is it, your experience, the circuitry of the Euro, and or the addition of

a decent quality headphones that allows this. Or all of the above.

Until your say so, I thought the Golden uMax was the only real chatty Tesoro.

Your Euro Sabre is showing itself quite the communicator.

Hi David,

Does the Golden really talk like that? I mean better than the Silver Sabre?

You are right on all accounts. I feel that things are coming together.(an endless process by the way)...........

The SSUmax is more expressive than the Cibola. Silver is a gem. The Euro is more expressive than the SSuMax.....That coupled with the headphones and all the good information I've received from this forum, things seem to be coming together.

I was pretty excited when I got my Cibola. It took a little while to realize how expressive the Silver is. I finally realized I could find things with Silver that the Cibola missed. Now I've gone three steps forward with the Euro+Killer Bs+Knowledge combo.

A down side for the Euro is that it has less depth than the Silver.

Thanks for your post and best wishes,

Tabdog,

I don't have experience with the Silver Sabre model to say.

I have a Silver uMax here. It's new to me and haven't got experience with it either.

I defer to the Golden uMax Tesoro owner's manual.

"Second is a four tone audio ID. The tones cover 1) iron and foil, 2) rings, nickels and some pull tabs,
3) most pull tabs and screw caps, 4) pennies, silver coins and jewelry.
A special tone for targets that are causing the machine to saturate is also included."

That's pretty chatty, headphones or no.

Monte wrote about the Golden uMax, I read his report somewhere, but can't find it to reference.

Cheers,

David at Edmonton

I am sure your Killer B's had something to do with what you now hear. Audio characteristics are always there on Tesoro machines, but you really cant hear the distinct difference with cheap phones.

You might "study" that park more, and clean out the aluminum pieces. I am guessing you will be going back to this place over and over in the future, so each time you go, dig more of the junk to get it out of the way. Then the next trip is much easier. It pays to clean the junk out of places like this because you can turn the disc low enough to then hear bracelets and chains!

Your the first to tell me that. I do try to clean out playgrounds and small hot spots. Some people may think I'm crazy but I find jewelery that way. If I don't clean one out it stays in the back of my mind for a while.

Cheers,

If you have a spot you periodically hit, or one that offers up jewelry, it behooves you to clean out all the trash. If there are pieces of cut cans and other trash there, they can mask good targets so why not get them out of the way so you hear everything that is there? Once you clean out the area of the bigger chunks, then lower your disc down to the foil range and clean out all the small pieces and tin foil. I think you will be surprised at the gold that starts turning up. By doing this you are grooming your site so you hunt with very little discrimination. This is good for tot lots and bark chip areas.
