I purchased a XS2 over a month ago, After using a Troy Shadow for some time the XS2 is a whole new world. One of the questions I have is, When I go into pinpoint mode, sometimes it will pinpoint over the target and then other times it does nothing until you have passed the target. Is this normal or something that I am doing to cause this?
Thanks in advance.

Hey Chuck,
I have problems using the pinpoint mode too. I have over 230 hours of experience with the XS1, but I have never been successful with pinpointing in pinpointing mode. So I always have to approximate the target's position while I am not in pinpoint mode by putting target signal in the forward 1/3 of the area of my 10.5" search coil. First, I swing the search coil around with little 5 or 6 inch sweeps until I think the strongest signal comes thru the headphones. Then, while doing the short, slightly quick swings, I slowly move backwards until I quit hearing the signal. Then I slowly move forwards until I begin to hear the signal pretty good. At that instant, I figure that the target is somewhere in the forward 1/3 of the area under my 10.5 inch search coil. I imagine 3 lines radiating out from the center of the coil, each at 120 degrees from each other, just like cutting a pie into three equal pieces. Then I try and place the signal in the forward piece of pie.
This method may not work for rusty nails that give of false coin signals. Sometimes a rusty nail will give off a beautifully warbling apparent coin signal. This signal may be positioned 5 or 6 inches away from the actual rusty nail. This causes you to dig down and find nothing. But when you dig over about 5 inches, you find the nail.
There are many people who use the pinpoint mode with no problems and can pinpoint to within a 2inch x 2inch area. I am not so good at it!
You need to get the Sunray X1 target probe too.

Make sure you are moving the coil away from the target and preferably a few inches off the ground before hitting the pinpoin button, while I generally use disc to pinpoint a target.. it is the best way to use pinpoint. lift the coil away from the target at least 6 inches, hit pinpoint and sweep slowly back to it, do it a few tiimes from different angles and you should narrow it down real close.. if you get nothing in pinpoint or it seems to go off far from the target, you are probably on trash.. if it just a low rumble it could be a deep target.. however if its deep you should be able to tell by loudness in disc.. if its loud in disc and nothing where its supposed to be in pinpoint its probably iron falsing
