Just wanted to introduce myself, I've been reading the forums here and on a couple of other sites for the past few weeks. I wanted to thank everyone here for posting such great information, which has assisted me in my research to determine the manufacturer and
model of detector which will suit me best. I have decided to purchase a Sea Hunter Mark II. The main reason is that I reside on the west central coast of Florida, and spend a lot of time boating & sailing. I also decided to purchase my detector from Kellyco. as they are only couple of hours away. Now I've read some good things and some not so good things about Kellyco. So I drove over to their showroom last Saturday. I also brought a couple of screen shots of competitor pricing but I was unable to make a deal with them. I not one to make a scene etc... so I emailed Dan Gerrell the Chief Operating Officer @ Kellyco ( I found the email address on the forums) with the details of my experience at their store, Saturday evening when I got back home. This morning I received a reply to my email from Dan, followed by a call from the Sales Manager. and another followup from Dan again. We were able to workout everything and I'll be picking up my new detector this Saturday along with a few other things.
I look forward to contributing what I can to the site.
Thanks Again

Welcome aboard matey. I envy you your access to all those beaches and I'm sure everyone is looking forward to seeing pics of all those great finds. I've never used the Sea Hunter but from what I read on here, it's a nice machine. Good luck and Happy Hunting.

Welcome aboard the best forum on the net. Glad you were able to resolve your problem with Kellyco and get the tector you wanted. You will enjoy it and it will reward you well. Mel Fisher discovered the Atocha ( with $425 million aboard ) with that detector. Will look forward to your success and future posts.

:usaflag:Best of luck on your hunting adventures..

Hey Mark,

Good choice of a detector you picked out.

I also walked into Kellyco, in 1999, and bought me a Sea Hunter Mark II and got a good deal on mine...with less problems you had apparently. But none the less was happy.

I lived in Orlando at the time. I eventualy sold the detector to a dude in California when I moved back to Georgia. Sure wish I would have kept it now. I was one of the first 300 persons to buy the Sea Hunter Mark II as it had just been introduced around that time.

Good luck with yours!

Alan

I think it's been around a good deal longer than that in one form or another as Mel Fisher used it to find the Atocha and that has been many moons ago. It had been around many years when I field tested the GTI 2000 back in 96.

Bill

Yeh that was just the sea hunter...the mark II came out somewhere around 99, cause the first 300 ppl that bought one got a 1800's silver cob coin from Garrett....I got one, so I guessed I was within the first 300.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, Saturday is getting closer and I can't wait to pick up the Sea Hunter from Kellyco and put it to work.
Mark-

Welcome to the wonderful world of metal detecting! I know K-Co has a 120% guarantee. That if you find another machine advertised for less they will refund the difference plus 20% of the difference. A few years ago I did just that. They said they wouldn't match the price but would give me a cheap digger. I said "no thanks" and bought elsewhere. If you read their guarantee closely it says that they "almost always" match the price. In my book that means "we will not" But glad you got it worked out!

I read the same info on the site, and I would assume this a loop hole out of really low Internet price that may or may not be the real deal, No company should lose money on a sale regardless of the price found. Also it would appear that the 20% of the 120% is if you have already purchased from Kellyco and will be getting a check back for 20% of the difference in price, in addition to the price match. Which is understandable. After speaking to Dan Gerrell @ Kellyco I believe that he is working to make buying from Kellyco a better purchasing experience than many may have had in the past. We'll see what the future holds.

Your right Bill. I'm a remodeling contractor. If I told my customers that I almost always stand behind my work - they wouldn't hire me! What about doctors? They have a practice. If I told my customers I am a practicing contractor that almost always do what I say - well they would kick me out of their house! What happened to shaking hands and simply doing the job? Times sure have changed. Sorry I got off the subject....

Good Morning Everyone,
I pickup up the Sea Hunter Mark II and a Pro Pointer along with a long handled beach scoop on Saturday at the Kellyco Showroom. Tony was our Salesperson and was great to work with. My Son (Age :geek: and I hit a local beach on Sunday morning and we had a great time. You should see the kid in the surf, he looked that he's been detecting his whole life. Only found a few coins, pull tabs and some junk as we still need to learn how and what were doing, but my Son was having a ball and time together is always time well spent.
I have a question though. When you hit a target where on the coil is the best place to pin point I was figuring it was on the leading edge for the coil but we seem to be digging a larger area than may be required. any help would be appreciated.
Thanks - Mark

not sure how helpful this will be but here goes. I m new to this to by the way. I use four points on my coil(sense my detector has no PP function) "north, east, south, and west" the front of the coil being the north, and the back being the south no matter what direction Im facing this is always true. the right side is the east and the left is the west again no matter what direction I'm facing. now with my detector I dont get a sound until the coil edge opposite the direction of my swing passes over the object being detected. so when I swing east I watch the western side of the coil when it beeps I mark the spot. then I swing west watching the east side of my coil again when it beeps I mark the place. now I push north watching the south and mark when it beeps then south watching north mark when it beeps you should get a x that looks like this # cut a little more than the center of the x and I find what I'm looking for with pretty good success

please dont think I'm stupid lol that is the best way for me somebody else probably has a better answer for you
