I had to spend my cash on my wifes car (98 Malibu blew an intake gasket). But, I woke up this morning and she had left me a check to buy an Explorer XS. I bought one from a nearby dealer, that was used but like brand new (I love that woman he he).
The odd thing was I took it out all day today, and I am just beginning (my infancy in my learning curve) on the Explorer XS. I ran most everything in the factory presets, but I did raise the sensitivity and tool with the Iron Mask setting. GG, it was weird I remembered the hi-mid-low tone ranges from my Big Bud Pro unit.
Then I took in account my learning of VDI number from a similarity to the older White's Eagle. But I did use test targets to get an idea of the readings per targets-coins-clad-silver in different donominations. I didn't even fully understand the graph yet either, may take some time. But I had a great time, I went to a park that I swore it was hunted out every weekend for years. I found 17 Wheaties at a place were we used to bet a dinner on seeing the one that could find just one coin! I bagged 2 Mercs-1 Buffalo-1 super deep Indian Head penny-My first Barber dime this year. My first day, I knew nothing but I did buy the book by Andy Sabisch (Mastering the Explorer XS)but I have not read any of it. I have not been this happy about a new detector, since my first ID unit.
After sitting down and studying the manual, I see a lot I can do besides just cranking it up util it gets erratic and then backing off the Sen. The majority of the signals I got in the hi pitched audio tone were actually coins. Newer clads and silver too.
I did get interference when I was hunting an area near power lines, I just hit the Noise button and my problem was solved by a change in frequency, it was very effective. I sware I have hit these spots were I found these coins before. I found the Seated Dime under a tree were there is always a few inches of leaves over the ground. Before I never could hear a signal in the area. I heard a soft but fairly solid signal in the leaves, and I pushed them away and the signal was very solid after moving them. Nice depth is all I can say. I have tons to learn on customizing my own programs. Coming from a die hard White's guy once..I simply love it..Now were do I go tomorrow..I still like White's, but I am dang fond of my Minelab..
