I'm inviting all the lurkers out there to join in whether you have a detector yet or not. I know you're out there so pop in and make yourself known. W

Guess I'll be the first to chime in here Uncle Willy. Have been
reluctant to post here since I only use the garrett head phones.
But I always read this forum because it appears to be a pretty
good group. Will be heading for one of my favorite spots today
and if (big if) I find anything I'll post it and see if anyone
bites!

I use a Garrett 1350 and Ace 250, along with other gear. I post here first, regardless of what I am using - and I always feel welcome.
I've beem razzed for doing it on other forums. This is a great group.

A dictionary will define lurker(s).
A lurker is easy to identify once defined.
Visitors to a forum is not included in the definition, but could be discouraged from joining if regarded as such.
My name is ivan l larsen currently residing in Cairns Au.
I joined the Garrett camp some time back.
My first Garrett detector was an ADS Deepseeker, then a Freedom 2 Coin Commander, followed by a Sea Hunter XS-500 VLF-TR.
I got interested in PI detectors after reading articles by Ed Morris and Lucile Bowen in 1984 W&E Treasure Mags.
A Sea Hunter XL-500 Pulse and all the accessory coils 3.5" 7" and 13" was acquired.
A Beach Hunter AT4 had a place in the arsenal for a while.
Then came the Ultra GTA-1000 with an assortment of coils.
A GTI-2000 found a place in the que.
The latest acquisition is an Infinium LS with an assortment of Mono and DD coils.
I have visited this forum many times, everyone joins a forum for a reason, usually to ask questions and gain knowledge, sometimes to share information.
Anybody which know and have used the above detectors will be at a somewhat mature age and therefore have seen most of the usually asked questions and answers, and most likely participated in providing many of the answers
Why did I join: There was an invitation

Thank you for reading this !

Mick, I've been using a XS2A with garrett headphones and S1 sunray
probe. Now that I've worked this particular site to death with it,
It would be interesting to try other brands to see if you like
something else better. Wonder if any of the dealers that advertise
here have demo units that they would reasonably rent out.

It is good to hear from someone with your background and knowage.
I would like to hear more from surf hunters and how their equipment is performing. I do a little surf, but haven't had the cash to do an upgrade yet. I bet you have come up with some great finds. If you have any pictures of your finds , I would love to see them. It gives us all a thrill to see what others have found.

I use the ACE300. I know it's slightly outdated but at present it's doing a good job for me. Especially with the aid of my Vibra-Probe. I expect to upgrade someday. Will stay with the Garrett line I supose, Have found lots of clad and silver once in a while. I have monitored this Garrett forum for a while and enjoy reading all the comments. I don't live far from the Garrett plant and have read a lot about the Garrett history. (Us Texans gota stay together) I think they are one of the best is thier field.
Al aka bloodyknees...........

i will tell you back aound 1985 i had a basic whites 3900 d detector. i could hunt with the best of them. i could hear a good tone. theres machine shops i know still using tools from 1950 and still doing a great job. when i go fishing i'm asked why i catch so many fish. i tell them that i always have my lure in the water. while they are trying different lures and talking and eating, caught in trees there i am just pulling in fish. the same goes for detecting. yes you can buysome pretty sophisticated machines and tweek many options. but if you have your coil to the soil you'll do better than them.

I like the stories where a man finds a big piece of gold or a large ring. Really most any Md would find those things. Two days ago I found a gold ring 3" down in would chips. I have a machine with notch decimation. I run it most of the time, foil and up. I dig everything. The newer MD do have numerable advantages. But it comes down to keeping the coil to the soil.

Was a "lurker", finally joined up, bought an ACE 250 and hope to learn alot from all of you friendly folks. jac (aka Judy)

...But it comes down to keeping the coil to the soil.
And the trowel in the ground.

The sovereign has a good reputation. I had heard so much about them last year, that when I upgraded from my first machine, I bought a second hand original Sov. Got a bit of a shock, when I found that it nulled on iron like it does (guess that wasn't mentioned in the brochure:ranting:). If I had discovered the findmall site sooner, Then the guys on that forum could have talked me through its idiosyncrasies. I don't see very many detector operators around, but about half of them swing sovereigns; and they all love them.
If you can get the opportunity to hit your site again with another type of detector, then a few more finds may come to the surface that the sov may not have seen. I read an article a few months ago, about a fellow that took his sov to a site and hunted it dry for 2 or 3 days straight. He then set the machine up differently, and he said it was like he had never hit the site and hit it for another day and a half before it dried up.
You may find that if you can get to a detecting shop, you should be able to hire most machines, depending on the vendor. If you're in the same situation as I am, that may not be practical as I live to far away from such a shop. Buying a detector is a bit of a lucky dip, as I mail order, so can't try before I buy.
Good luck, and thanks for dropping in. feel free to do it again.
Mick Evans.
