Not too bad here in NE PA. Mid 90's but low humidity. I spent fours hours out Saturday mostly in the shade. How are you all doing? Where are you and what kind of temps are you experiencing? Are you out detecting? I'll be out today unless the T-storms move in. Be safe. HH. Matt
A little warm here in New Hampshire but tolerable for a few hours anyway. I believe the high is supposed to be around 90 with moderate humidity. Right now at 8:50 am its 76 degrees and 68% humidity and I am almost ready to gear up and head out to a freshly mowed hay field. Just need to finish my coffee.
Yeah, I just got back...its been real steamy once the sun comes up, just working the beaches behind about 50 other guys. Making about a penny a mile I guess. Still, I cant find anything inside the house, so WTH...I go...
Mud
82 here in the Memphis area at 5:30a on its way into triple digits again and to make matters even worse, we are near 14" below norm in rainfall for the year. Flat, thin grass area's are concrete and parks and the like are a no, no. I've got a few fields with thick grass and around big trees that I can still dig, but digging is over by 9a or so. Good luck everyone and be careful out there. HH jim tn
Here in Hohenwald Tn at 10:30am it is 93 degrees heading again for triple digit temperature. The humidity as been low which as made the temps a little more tolerable, but it is sure drying things out. No more tectin' for me until it rains.
I was out from 10am until 2pm today (Sunday). Temp when I got home was 91F in the shade here in Northeast PA. Luckily I spent most of my time today in the shade disecting this pile of freshly ripped up turf and lots of dirt. The dog just chills out in the shade watching me. Not much action in this pile. Clad and a couple wheats. I'm just happy to be out swinging. I guess a lot of us need rain! HH. Matt
its been 110+ here in Arizona for the past week, I have been doing my hunting at 5am and sometimes at night. I know we dont have the humidity most of you have but regardless its no fun
I did some land hunting in the shade this morning but left when I started to lose the shade. I should throw my GT control box in my chest mount bag on my water rig and hit the local beach at sun rise for the rest of the week. I like to water hunt early in the morning before the sun gets high in the sky and reflects off the water to bake you from the ground up via the water's reflection.
Went to Hampton Beach this am,6;00 am to 9:00 am, was getting on the warm side, and the beach was starting to fill up, when I left. Does hoping some of the beach goers leave some of their jewelry behind make me a bad person? LOL. Artie
Some folks are getting pounded. Dry enough here to be dangerous for fires, but only around 90 for our high today. I've been wanting to make a coin garden to conduct some serious target testing that I can leave in place, but it's just too dang hot out! I did manage to do some scouting for a location, but I always run across our plentiful native iron deposits, so it's hard to find a spot that's target-free and easy digging. I'm about to head out and try again.
I spent today putting up some exterior trim and installing the last section of handrail on our porch. Honeydoos come first, before detecting! The heat finally got to me about 2pm, and it's been beer-30 since!
Sandy and I feel for all those without power in this oppressive heat.
I hunt early morning and bring water , 5;;30 to 7 a.am otherwise the heat just knokx you down , how did those guy handle it in viatnam every day with all that stress, i would have gone madd . God have mercy on the vets,
106 in Alabama today, I havent felt to good lately to hunt in this heat! Days like this I really like this forum I can see what others have found without leaving the house . HH hank
Here, in eastern Missouri, its been hotter than Hades! I went out yesterday morning with the DFX. Due to the hard dry ground and burnt up grass I was only checking out hits at 4" or less. You know, the kind where you can easily use a coin popper or screwdriver. After about 1 1/2 hr got back in the car and kicked on the AC for a while. Drank all my water then got back to detecting for about another hour or so. Got pretty thirsty again so headed back to the house with 44 coins, a token, and a small pile of assorted tabs and other junk.
I thought about going fishing today but will probably do better at detecting......the fish go deep when it gets hot and are hard to find....the coins and jewelry tend to stay where they are.
I thought of going to Kentucky Lake. I will need to make a few calls... to find out if detecting is allowed around Paris Landing. If TVA land, I know they stopped issuing MD permits.
I gave up for the moment... It reached +42C a couple of days ago, and the humidity has risen since, making the temperature felt almost the same... The sea has reached +30C while the ground is like hardened charcoal. I went to a site near the sea and got chased away by a swarm of them little pesky skeeters... Boy, were they thirsty... I'm still scratching new undiscovered bites after 3 days... I can now say that WINTER is the best season for detecting.
Been in the upper 90's to 100+ today here in Southern Wisconsin. The ground is very dry and like cement. As people have been saying, be smart, drink LOTS of water/liquids, have a hunting buddy, detect early morning, or early evening, or beaches. Cant wait for a nice soaking rain to get the ground diggable again! HH to all!
