I got my Pro last week, but haven't been able to do much with it until today. I went to my shop and had a couple of hours in a large space to set up the Pro and do some air tests. I found a spot with no interference, and set up a yardstick so I could get depth readings and wow.....I'm blown away. The standard mode sounds good (I'm used to hearing the belltone on my GTaX 550), it was nice to hear the familiar sounds in this mode. The depth was what I would expect, and it correctly identified the things I used in the tests. I fooled around with some iron and some other junk to see how the standard mode reacted. I also tested iron and silver coins at the same time. I realized that I have surely missed a lot of good targets in the field with my 550, after seeing how the iron and other junk can mask good targets.
This brings me to the "Pro" air tests. What can I say?!? This thing is unreal. It does chirp and beep a tiny bit in this mode, but it's like a horse chomping at the bit...like raw power trying to hold back! The first thing I noticed was the incredible depth, I was hitting on targets around and beyond the 12 inch mark. I cannot wait to try this in the field, and get excited when I hear the faint whisper of a great target at 11 or 12 inches deep! The depth alone impressed me, until I got to fooling with the Iron Audio/Discrimination. This is a GREAT feature! I need to do much more testing/detecting to really grasp how it all works, but I am so excited about the things I learned today. The way a great target, a silver quarter for example, sounds when it's masked by a piece of junk is really cool when the Iron Audio features are set up properly. Like I say, I need to spend much more time with this thing, but I am confident that it's going to be a fantastic summer with it! I'm very much looking forward to hunting my favourite spots like virgin territory again!
Almost forgot, one of my favourite things so far is that in Standard mode a modern penny (Canadian), says "I'm a coin, dig me up!".
In Pro mode that same penny says "I'm a coin, but I'm junk...don't waste your time!" Woohoo!!!
