I'm getting an E Trac.........

I know for sure in this old old city I live close to there is silver in the ground. It appears and has been confirmed that there has been a pretty large MDing clan here for a long time. Let me tell you I love the X Terra detectors. My next step, progression, has to be the E Trac. I feel very sure, positive, none of this 200-300+ year old ground has ever seen anything like this machine. When you have extra large pieces of real estate that you can find "some" clad on and not a lot of anything else I feel sure it has not been detected by a detector like this. So I'm spending a lot of time reading the manual for the E Trac and it seems like it is gonna be a killer in this old place I live. I can't wait until it arrives and I get to run it.................Wish me luck!

I think you will love it, I had the chance to hunt with one for a day and I was pretty impressed at the ease of use, pinpoints like a laser. It is about twice as heavy as the xterra though.........Big downfall,....... but it is a machine that will surely impress, Minelab has a winner for sure

Gee, if I only had a couple of pennies lying around.

I'm saving for mine right now.
The X-70 was my first machine ever.
bought it for prospecting and coin shooting.
Well i do more coin than prospecting.
It will be an excellent back up machine
or loaner.(wife thinks six months is kind of fast to buy again) LOL

Good luck with the Etrac, Jack. I've had about every detector out there. And some of them more than once! Heck, I've even tried multiple units of some models, thinking I must have missed something with the first one or two I tried. I've owned a couple Explorers and like what the FBS units do for target ID. But the darn things are just to awkward for this crippled old body to work for more than an hour or two at a time. Some of my buddies have been trying to get me into an Etrac, as they claim the 15 degree change in the grip makes a world of difference. So far I've avoided the temptation. So far, I said!

There are two times of year that I really enjoy detecting. In the spring before the crops are planted. And in the fall after the crops are harvested. I can't hunt winter months due to the frozen ground. And I don't want to dig holes in someones yard in the summer, fearing the "brown bullseye". :ranting: So if I want to do some detecting this time of year, I have to find a vacant lot or an abandoned farmsite. I've managed to dig some nice coins this past week. But everytime I drive by the nasty ol trashy local park, I think of getting an Etrac. The slow sweep speed, excellent TID and a whole host of coil choices might just be what the doctor ordered! If I can convince myself that I am mentally capable of hunting a 10 X 10 area in no less than an hour, I may have a shot!

Keep us posted on your success. HH Randy

Hey Guys, To be honest with you, I have considered the E-Trac but, like Randy, I have difficulty swinging more than 3 pounds. The X-Terra has given me a new lease on metal detecting. I'd love to try an E-Trac out but I'm not at all sure I could handle the extra weight. So I guess I'll stick with the X-Terra 70 for a while.

The E Trac arrived today! I can say with just a first look and feel and checking out some thrown coins around the garage ( it's raining cats and dogs) I really cannot tell any difference in the physical characteristics of it at all. Of course I do not hold the detector out in front of me. I pretty much detect a foot in front of my feet and a 180 swing around my body. Seeing how it is pouring down I WAS blown away at the air tests I was doing.........I know I know, that doesn't mean a thing but! Not like shooting in the dirt blah blah blah. It was giving me those faint high toned beeps at a distance I'm not going to say.......whew! Everybody does it anyway. If it cuts the distance by 1/3rd in the dirt I'll be happy as a possum in road kill. Now to wait for the week long rain to go away. Dangit!

man you don't mess around when you said you were getting one when we talked last week on the phone, u were serious!

I recently traded in my E-Trac to buy my X-Terra 705 and Teknetics T-2. I like them both better than the E-Trac. Maybe it was just too complicated for me , but I dug more rusty nails with the E-Trac than I've dug with any other detector that I've owned ( About 7 detectors ). I just couldn't get rusty nails too stop sounding diggable no matter what I tried. Plus the two number ( conductive and ferrous ) system made it hard for me to figure out what was diggable or not. Like I said before - maybe it is just too complicated of a detector for me , but it actually took the fun out of detecting for me and I was glad that I was able to trade it in on my 705 and T-2 ( both detectors also came with an extra coil ) for even up. I hope you like your new E-Trac better than I did , but I've talked to a few ex E-Trac owners that felt the same way that I do. I learned that more expensive doesn't always mean better. At least in my case it didn't. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your new machine , CoinShooter-Craig P.S. - I've found wheaties with my T-2 in areas that I searched hard with the E-Trac.

Many have trouble mastering an Explorer and putting up with its weight...Hobby is supposed to be fun and why risk an injury or burnout trying to make a unit work..
On the other end of the coin many do well with them as certainly a nice unit when mastered and one guesses with all the choices seems like you are happy with your new choice of units...
