I'm considering getting an AT - Should I go Pro or Gold ?

I want to do some detecting via Kayak next season so I need something waterproof in case I capsize !!! So I will be relic hunting, coin shooting and maybe some beach hunting. What AT do you guys recommend ? Thanks, Ed

I'd get the Pro since your going to hunt coins and the beach. I have both and only use the Gold for relic hunting

Hey Ed If I were you I would go with the Pro, but do yourself a favor and get the 5X8 DD coil with it. Depth is great and it is killer in the trash. The Gold is also a great machine but I mainly use that around the old cellar holes for relics. Either way you can't go wrong, but for me the Pro seems to sniff out the old silver a bit deeper.

Ed AT-Gold Wont GB on the Beach,

The Gold won't do well in the salt!

My two cents here. You are going to get more replies from the AT Pro users because there are many more sold. The AT Gold is a better machine and a newer design, but it costs more. The All Metal mode is harder to learn but it gets about two more inches. Once you get an area with good finds, then you switch to All Metal and dig every good sounding target. These are the deep old ones that other machines missed. Now if you are going into salt water, the AT Gold is not going to work there.

From what people report for coin finds it seems that the AT Pro may go a little deeper in discriminate on say silver coins than my AT Gold. However, with the AT Gold you can run iron audio in all metal which can be a productive way to hunt and the all metal mode is deep.

The AT Gold is hot on gold and with the 18khz frequency and may have a little edge on the gold. I use my AT Gold for water hunting in swimming areas and it found 7 pieces of gold this summer. Since you mentioned Kayaking I'm thinking you may be water hunting. I also use it for gold prospecting in the western U.S.

Now the gold comes with the 5x8 coil and this is also a great swimming hole coil especially in trash. I added the 11" DD for my AT Gold for more depth especially on coins. Bargain wise I think there was a two coil package being offered with the AT Pro at one time no sure now.

If you want to hunt the salt water then AT Pro

Either way you really can't go wrong it just comes down to how you are going to use it.
