I'm Back!

It's been a few years since I posted here regularly. I had the Sovereign Elite and initially bought it for a quick backup choice for my CZ-70 for beach hunting, when my CZ went down at a critical time just before the 4th Of July weekend. Well, found 5 rings with the Elite my first night out on the beach and the rest was history. I hunted through the summer with the Elite and then into the fall and winter relic/coin season with it as well and decided to get an Excalibur to return to the beach the following summer. And subsequently sold the Elite and got a Quattro. Did very well with it. Got rid of it and got an Explorer II. Did very well with IT...got rid of it and got the Explorer SE. Did very well with IT TOO...now I have gotten rid of it too.

Yesterday i got my brand new Sovereign GT with 8" and 10" Minelab coils and Sunray 12.5" coil. The detector is assembled, the battery charged, and it's ready to go. Now I have to get out and hunt with it. I'm sure that before long I will have posts to show some good things but it's nice to be back in the "BBS camp" again. Call me crazy, but I like the simplicity, the tones, and the hunt style of the BBS machines better. And with the right coil for the conditions and the right person at the helm, I think the BBS machines can hang with the FBS machines any day.

Hey MIKE, WELCOME BACK!!! It's been quite awhile since we've talked! What kind of summer did you have? I had a LOUSY Gold Summer!! I got out quite a bit this summer, and predominantly hunted the ocean, and my favorite bay spot, but N-O G-O-L-D!!!! I was able to save face in August waterhunting a freshwater lake beach up to chest level. I got (2) 10kt Gold Rings, one of them my first school ring, and (2) Sterling Silver items!! YIPPY!!
Alot of people tell me it's been a BAD SUMMER for Gold Jewelry, but I'm not a good judge of that, considering my track record. I hope you were able to load up on the GOLD & SILVER Jewelry again this year!! Drop me aline on how you did, and best of luck with your new SOV-GT!! LES

Glad to hear you are back. You were there when I was willing to sell my soul for my first silver coin, Great to have your wealth of knowledge and wisdom hanging out on the BBS board again ........

Sovereign made, and I believe you have one of the Top beach machines on the market today. I'm still not convinced it's the best machine for relics, but it will certainly hold it's own. It differently loves gold....

Welcome back,I ran a Quattro for 2 years on the beach, great machine, now I run a GT,I prefer the tones and it seems to find the reaaly small stuff better,I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Thanks Les. I had a good start to my summer, a slow middle, and a nice finish.

I ended up with a few nice diamond ring keepers for the wife and daughter, a $150 in clad, a couple of nice gold chains, and a $1028 check from Midwest Refineries for all the gold bands and silver rings I scrapped. All in all, it turned out to be a pretty good beach season. All that was night hunting on the weekends with the Excalibur. If you search the Beach & Water forum going back for the last 6 months and look for my posts, they're all there with pics.

HH!

I sure believe that's true. But the Excal is no slouch either and I just have to have the peace of mind that comes with a waterproof machine when those waves are crashing and the surf rushes in. I WANT to hit the beach with the GT but I just put my Excal battery on charge for tomorrow night. Looks like some beach erosion coming. I'm planning on heading out there...you want to go? Looking at like maybe 7:30 to 11:30...what do you think? Call me.

Yeah, the Quattro is probably one of the deepest beach machines I've ever seen...amazing, really. I've seen it pull a quarter that was so deep that my Excal wouldn't get a null off of it. That was with the 12.5" coil, manual sens at 18, and the Excal with the 10" at 10 oclock. But I'm with you on the tones of the BBS machines and the way they hunt and hit targets.

Thanks Adam. Heh...I remember that well...telling you it would come. That was probably a 100 or more silver coins ago, huh? You've certainly come a long way. You probably have the same problem I have now...I've hunted everything out within 50 miles of here. No where to go. Private property is pretty much the name of the game now. Farm fields and old home sites. If you can get the permission. That's why beach hunting holds my interest so much. Unlike coin and relic hunting, it's a comepletely renewable resource. Every summer. :)

Yes, Its probally more then 100 :bouncy: but I aint gonna split hairs :nono: .....the town is definately played out, I have hit every little sidewalk strip in my town with the exception of the ones I have got the boot from  or ones that you just know it aint a cool thing to do . occasionaly I run into a spot and think have I hit that?? sometimes I get lucky, since I moved out of the Bay Area it has been slower silver wise, last year I got into a great demo that put out a lot of old silver mainly Barbers with 2 seated coins, this year has seen only a fraction of last years silver count, but my gold has been up due to more of a willingness to dig raspy sounding stuff, But all in all it has been slumpy , My kid is getting older too so more time is spent doing camping and fishing,he only likes detecting when its a demo because he can climb on huge piles of dirt and look for marbles  whats amazing is he finds some too, not always but hes got a keen eye for stuff :inlove:..........glad to see you back take care

Like most that really get to know their Sovereign it is hard not to come back to it after trying others. The Explorer is a good detector too along with the Quattro, but the Sovereign is so much simpler to use and to me the tones are much nicer it is more enjoyable to use.

I agree with Rick. Here recently when I decided to get back into detecting, it was the Sovereign that I decided to go back to and not one of the few other popular brands I also had owned.

Welcome back Mike!:detecting:

I'm talking tonight from about 7:30 to 11:30. Karl and I are going to leave my place at about 7. If things are popping and it looks like there are cuts galore and targets galore then we will stay until there aren't any more and may go back for the morning low as well. This could be what we've waited for. Or it could be a complete bust. You know how that goes. Anyway, if you want to go we can all go and park at the 9th st garage maybe? All ride along? My place at 7?
