Well, I have been gone for awhile and I don't really know why I've been gone!! During the school year I work at the Hewitt-Trussville Middle School as a School Resource Officer. So, I do have some time to check the Forum, but for some reason I got out of the habit. This summer I have been working as a jailer. Our department has had two jailers on sick leave and then a third one quit. At first I was working 12 hour shifts 7 AM to 7 PM. Then one of the jailers came back to work, so now I am working 8 AM to 5 PM Monday thru Friday. I went to TAASRO (The Alabama Association of School Resource Officers) Conference in Gulf Shores, Alabama. My Sergeant, has been the Treasurer of the Association since it was formed, and he decided to let someone else do it. So, I ran for Treasurer. Nobody ran against me and so I am the new Treasurer. Prior to the Conference all the registration forms and payments were coming to my Sgt. Since he didn't think anybody would run against me, he thought it would be a good idea if I learned about the job by writing all the receipts for entry fees!! Now I know why nobody ran against me!!! That is a tough job!!! I was back for a week and then went to Patrol Rifle class to learn all about the H&K 416 D patrol rifle. We had to qualify with a score of 100% to be able to carry the patrol rifle. The class would have been a lot more fun if it had not been 97 and 98 degrees and about 120% humidity!!! We got to do a lot of shooting and I really enjoyed that!!
I have been working for the past couple of weeks in the jail, and next Monday thru Wednesday I and the SRO from the High School are going to Advanced SRO Training. (He is also working the jail, but he is still working 12 hour shifts at night 7PM to 7AM.) Then on July 26 we fly to Phoenix for NASRO (National Association of School Resource Officers) Conference. We will be there for a week and then work the jail for about 3 weeks before we go back to school.
I haven't been detecting much, in fact, I went water detecting in Gulf Shores at the State Park swimming area which is brackish water. I realized somebody must hunt that place regular, because all I found was 2 dozen pulltabs...not even a single penny!!!
Last weekend I went with a couple of friends to Oak Mountain State Park Beach, and then a couple of other spots. I found 2 gold earrings (not a matched set), and several junk earrings and about $4.00 in change. It was fun, but it is hard to find any place that isn't just pounded to death!!
Well, ya'll are all up to date now, and I am going to try to do better about checking in...I've missed ya'll!!
