bought it barely used from some kid and it worked great till it started falsing then i had it fixed at the factory. They gaved me new coil and it went south on me again falsing, i had to ground balance every few minutes just to get it right.Well i called them again and was upset about the work they did so i returned it to them. Well quess what now, it wont let me ground balance in the wet sand nor on the salt and all i hear is chatter and false targets,I have to pump it for balancing every second and it wont even silence it just gets louder.I tried the grass area and it kind of got little better but it wouldn't let me balance it correctly so again i have to pump it every few minutes just to get a target..

I'm pretty good with this detector but is it me or it?

I dint know to to do now

Try lowering the sensitivity 2 notches or more.

Something wrong with that machine. Perhaps you should call Garrett and ask to speak to Sue. Explain calmly whats happened and see if they will swap your machine for a new one.

I ground balance often especially when I move to a different place and I am surprized at how much the ground changes. I really like being able to see where it is and how it changes. It takes a bit more effort but that's what it takes. I read a nugget hunting book that says you should ground balance every sweep at first! And the Garrett videos (or is it the manual?) says you should move the gb 5 or 10 and then pump the coil to see how hot the ground is. If it's not hot it is not quite as important to keep it set accurately.

Is your ground balance moving on it's own? It shouldn't.

I made the mistake of trying to ground balance while in the discriminate mode. I figured out the iron discrimination can be hiding iron under the coil and when I was unknowingly balancing over iron it was way off. Now I always ground balance in All Metal mode so I know for sure I am over clean ground.

You need to double up with someone who is experienced with metal detectors. It's hard to problem solve without the detector in my hands. Are all plugs tightened? Good batteries, right polarity? If it was sent in, and returned, it should be fine.? I hope you get the problem resolved. The AT Pro really is a great detector.

Yes check all the plugs. Garrett will make it right!

Yup, see if you can get an experienced AT-Pro user to run it and check it out.
