I received the sniper coil for my 350 that I purchased from McDave today, so I took it out to a school that closed about 20 years ago. Wasn't looking for anything old, just wanted to try out the new coil. This thing will find tiny targets! Unfortunately, the old ball field that I was hunting was full of can slaw, so I decided to switch back to my DD coil and just pick up some clad. (The school opened in 1970, so I knew that I wouldn't find anything old) I was poking around in the back corner ball field, and not getting many signals at all. It was one of 4 playing fields, and this one was unkept. I finally got a dollar signal, and moved on. After digging about a million soft drink cans, I ignore those signals. After finally finding a couple memorial pennies, I decided to go back to the dollar signal and dig it. I have found a couple rings lately, and thought maybe it was a large silver one. I pinpointed the signal, and started digging. The ace was showing it at 8+ inches deep, but I expected to find the can at a couple inches at most. After digging about 8 inches, I finally started getting a signal with the propointer at the bottom of the hole. I kept digging, and at just a little over 10", out popped my first standing liberty quarter! No idea why it was there, and I have never found any history about the property before the school opened. Maybe dirt brought in from somewhere else when the school was built? Who knows.... I also found 10 nickels, 4 dimes, 12 pennies, and a ton of pull tabs. Everything modern except for the quarter. It's well worn, but it looks to be a 1929.
