I'm sure this has been beat to death but is this the mode that Explorer II users generally stay in ? And also do most use the crosshair screen ? Many thanks for everyones patience.

I feel like I finally mastered this great machine. Its been 3 months, and i get out when I can,one day I realized I was not fidgeting any more, Anyway, sites dictate my patterns.Im mostly around iron mask 14 ferrous sounds audio 1 and always use crosshairs and dont expect textbook hits on deeper targets or trashy areas, the earlier pages in this classroom forum definatly helped me but without time in the field trying different things I would still be reading. I still read hear obviously and probably still learning but I pretty much have found my groove after a few months and my silver collection is growing fast.

I am curious Fix now that you are in the groove what is your average depth of silver finds and are you consistently finding older coins ? Are you definitely feeling that the Explorer is a lot better than what you were using before you bought the Explorer ? I am still working with this model and yes your right, you got to get in the field to go anywhere with it. Thank you Fix.

if depth meter is over 50% and target is coin sized and sounds good I get excited. I would say average silver around 6"deep although meter is only reference and not exact always. 1/3 of hunts yeild silver for me.But that all depends on sites and time. Also I have found clad suprisingly deep, usually if meter is 50% or less its probably clad but than id is pretty good on shallow targets. Some deepies sound iffy and im sure I have missed alot, I guess Im still workin some good sites and when I think Ive cleaned em up good then Ill start digging the deeper signals that sound iffy.I'm perfectly content with the EX and never found silver before with other machines, probably because ID is pretty good on this thing and I know when not to dig. With other machines i dug lot more junk. Here is what I use other than IM, Clear screen, X nails and/or crowncaps, Ferrous sounds, Audio 1,manual sens up,and a few other adjustments that you will try along the way but I dont want to overload you with those right now, like fast on deep on var. tone gain blah blah blah. I make minor changes according to junk in ground at different sites. These are my opinions and you will find yours.Good luck, sweep speed average moving forward slowly.

I agree..Most good targets for me are around the halfway mark on the depth meter. Not always a solid hit, but usually are at that depth. Deeper then that will sometimes sound very "flutey", and sometimes will have a low and high tone as you sweep back and forth. Target cross hairs work better for me also..digital seems too precise..dont want to miss a good target because numbers arent exactly as in an air test or more shallow target. Digital works, dont get me wrong, but I like the grenade approach..if the cross hairs are in the area of a desireable target, I will dig. Especially as a beginner. Dig everything now, and you will dig less later..I learned that here. Trash is tougher..I prefer the IM-16 setting, ferrous. But some high trash areas are very tough to hunt with these setting, for me anyway. Im trying to use audio one..but its tough. Any suggestions form anyone? This forum is the next best thing to being there, but get out and dig..HH everyone
