IM-16 Does Have More Depth For These Reasons

The test I have done in the field indicates we get about a

i dont where your digging that you would need that extra quarter inch and the headache of im-16 most objects arnt 20 inches deep unless theve been bull dozed in plowed fields like in the mother land coins are on the surface thousands of yearsold and your wrong this an explorer not a whites sounds like your short glad i dont have that problem.

In most cases I don't think it is worth it SO use IM-14 or even up to IM 0. At the CW site I am currently searching there is no reason to use any discrimination. There are area at the site where some discrimination is needed or the iron would drive one nuts. The 1827 cut dime I found last week could would have been very easy to miss so I was using IM-16 to eliminate as many variables as I could. There was not enough iron to make a difference and I wnated to hear it anyhow. I like to hear all targets at that site other than in an area of the site where is is just more than one can bear. Actually I have used several PI detectors, several Fishers, Whites, and Minelabs at the site. It is on about 180 acres where we have found some great relics and coins. I don't have a preference such as IM-16 over some other pattern but am saying if a 1/4 to half inch is important then IM-16 will do that. If we consider a halo then we can get more. If I wanted serious more depth then I would go with a larger coil.

your wrong period call minelab and ask them to re write there manual and let there customers know if you run in in im 16 that youll get more depyh and tell Andy S. hes wrong as well the only thing you may gain is seperartion. whatever make it more complcated than it is my typing is terrible so deal with it

I've only been at it for a year now and everything your saying makes complete sense!Been using IM-16 more often lately and can really tell the difference!
Keep up the informative post Cody as I read every one of them!

Leonard I myself could argue to the Cows come home about this but I have better things to do so I will spell it out for you. Ok heres a for instance say your detector will go 12 inches deep in Iron Mask - 16 ( wide open ) then you notch out crown caps (you loose an inch) then nails (and inch)then pull tabs (and inch) then screw caps (and inch) well every time you notch out an unwanted item you loose depth ,each step of discrimation you loose depth POINT BLANK>>>>>> so now your depth went from 12 inches to, 12 - 4 = 8 inches see well this was mereley and for instance thats all I dont think you loose an whole inch but that is how it goes and I hope you learned something today have a nice day Frank Bunkley

I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THAT CONCEPT BUT THE EXPLORER IS NOT DESIGNED THAT WAY ,QUESTION WHY DO PEOPLE POST THAT WHEN THEY HAVE A GOOD TARGET THET THEY CHECK IT IN NON IM? THIS MACHINE IS NOT DESIGNED THAT WAY JUST LIKE THE FACT THAT PEOPLE SAY "HEY I CANT GET A SOUND AT 2INCHES AIR TESTEING " THIS IS NOT A WHITES , GARRETT ETC. GOOD LUCK DIG AND DIG AND DIG AND DIG. AND YES I HAVE PLENTY OF EXPERIENCE WITH IM-16 AND REGULAR DISC, ITS LIKE PEOPLE ARE EXCITED TO HEAR A NOISE OR JUST WANT TO DIG IRON IF IM ON A CIVAL WAR CAMP I DIG EVERYTHING BUT FOR DEPTH I USE SENS AND AUDIO GAIN FOR DEEP TARGETS . BUT THATS MY OPINION I COULD BE WRONG. HOPE THIS HELPS BUT THEN AGAIN IF YOU SO SURE WHY SWITCH TO DISC BEFORE YOU DIG ? NOT SAYING YOU DO BUT ITS THE SAME DEPTH PERIOD CALL MINELAB AND TELL THEM TO ONLY PRODUCE A MACHINE THAT HUNTS IN IM -16 AND THELL LAUGH . NOT TRYING TO BE MEAN BUT ITS THE TRUTH I HAVE SEEN NO DEPTH COMPARISON IN IM OR DISC, GET A WOT THAT WILL GET YOU DEPTH.

Once again, The Explorer is designed to do what ever you want it to do IM or Dis. wise BUT I myself have had numerous targets which were old deep coins that in Im -16 -15 -14 they would give a good responce but when I switched to lower IM or Sens. or gain or Dis. pattern they would simply disapear the sound and Id cross hair so I know for a fact that Minelab doesn't say or tell you to hunt in IM -16 but that is what you have to do to get the Max. out of it .Frank Bunkley
