Today I spent an hour or so gathering buried pull tabs. In the past 90 days, I have collected enough aluminum to build the better part of a 747's tail section. Have any of you ever wondered how nice MDing would be if drinks never were packaged in cans?

Well, I got a good signal, dug the plug and scanned the hole and plug but got no signal. I then replaced the plug and again got the signal. I then removed the plug and scanned the plug and hole and got nothing. I used my pinpointer on the plug and hole and got nothing. I replaced the plug and again got a strong signal.

What on earth is going on???

Gremlins.....

Your detector is messin with your mind...try your All Metals mode if you have one in those situations...

HH,

Maybe in the future, aluminum will be todays gold.

Gopher is right. sometimes a small pc a metal right on top will give a strong signal and when flipped over will diappear on the machine(unless in all metal) and also give the pinpointer trouble. I have had this happen many times.

There is a huge park not far from me. Its been there since 1901. Its about a mile square in size, lots of trees throughout. It has been used alot over the years.
There are pull tabs everywhere. One every 2 ft in all directions, throughout the park, and in some spots the ground is just loaded wt them. Its unbelievable, really.
I have found silver there b4 but it is difficult. Must be in the right mind set to go there.

I've been there for parties several times with out detector and all I can see is the pulltabs in the ground, with my superman vision. (its true) lol

Good Luck

A flash with superman vision? Someone has been reading to many DC comic books.

flash5153:

I could see if the removed plug were up-side-down when I scanned it, however I tried both right-side-up and up-side-down with the plug removed and there was no signal. I would then move the plug 8" back into the hole and there woudl be a STRONG signal.

Geepers!!!

Maybe get mulder and scully on it ,,,or maybe rod serling.

Really though, that is strange. maybe there is something down deep and when a void from the plug is made causes the machine to lose the target.

I have had that happen b4, but normally if detector wont pick it up any longer wt plug out, it is not something really big and the item is not much deeper than the bottom of the hole. Just enough deeper that the pinpointer wont pick it up. And if it is something real big,, and deeper the detector will still pick it up, even wt the plug out.

If it was just one time this happened, I say " forget about it" Or on the other hand , if its bothering you. Go back find the culprit hole and dig it. Until you figure out whats going on. lol

Good Luck

I'm sorry Mark, but I seriously laughed out loud for a few minutes picturing that. I had something similar happen recently. I've been using a small plastic drop cloth lately to make sure the area looks good after I refill the hole and plug. I dug a dime the other day that made its way into the drop cloth without me seeing it. I rechecked the hole and now the solid signal moved to the other side of the hole towards the plastic. So i pulled the drop cloth back and widened the hole towards the drop cloth. I widened the hole 2 or three more times chasing the signal towards myself before I realized it was in the plastic the whole time.:rage: JJ

I hate it when that happens....once I was digging for a target to find it was a BB stuck in the dirt on my LESCHE Tool...DOH!!!

HH,

Well I went out today and by using the tip someone here suggested of switching to all metal, I was able to determine in which entity (hole or plug) the target was located.

Sometimes when the target is in the plug, the pinpointer cannot locate it. In that situation, I have to split the plug in two pieces and then rescan each to narrow down the search. I even sometimes have to split the half plug too.

So, what did the target turn out to be?

Aluminum screw cap. I now have nearly enough aluminum to build the tail section of a 747. I sometimes feel like I'm on a snipe hunt and those that tell me to dig the junk PT signals are have a fun chuckle at my expense. I expected to see those gold rings and all I get is crap.

It happens to the best of us...I am still oooking for that elusive Gold band...I have found 2 silver rings, but no gold...found a gold plated earing, and that is about it...I find enough nickels, so the only thing I can think of is that the gold is NOT there, or I need a smaller coil for this 6.59 freq machine...I am looking to get a Blue Max 350 for my White's...
