Iffy Signal Turns Out To Be A Sweet Surprise

Well I finally got a weekend off and had nothing to do at all but go play in the dirt.... It rained and rained today finally letting up a little after 5pm... I decided to go back to the same old park that i have been getting burned out on...
There is a decent size grass area a little to the west of the play ground equipment that has been pretty good to me in the past... I have pulled mercs, wheat's, and Indians from this area in the past...
A couple months ago my friend Tim pulled a Barber dime as well as 2 Indians from this one particular section that has 3 trees that makes sort of a triangle... Tim has hunted and hunted and hunted this particular spot over the last couple months, it's not a very big area at all... I stayed away till i knew he was done hunting this section, even know he is the kind of guy that as soon as i find something he is there walking all around me with his DFX...

I got out of the car and fired up the Explorer... I never change my setting and usually run my sensitivity around 26-27, I decided to drop it down to 24 and work this small area very slow and listen. I wasn't even expecting to find much for the fact that Tim has covered this spot over and over...

Right off the bat i came up on a strange signal.. Only giving me a couple of beeps then jumping over to the iron side... I circled and nothing from the other directions.. I came around to the front again and still got a couple of beeps that just sounded to good to be iron but not good enough silver... I dropped down and opened up the hole... I dug down a bit and stuck the probe in,,, surprisingly it went off,, It dug down and could see the edge of a penny i reached in and picked it out of the dirt with my finger nail.. When it came out i got a BIG eye full if silver underneath it  I about went number 2 in my paints because i wasn't expecting silver at all... I reached in and right away could see that it was a 1950 Washington quarter... After i settled down a bit over this plain old quarter that everyone finds i rechecked the hole with the probe and surprisingly in went off again.. I ended up pulling 3 wheats 1 Washington, 1 war nickel and 3 rusty nails all from the same hole... a total of 33 cents,,, The best pocket spill i have found so far! I searched around a bit more and got a deep nickel hit,,, 7 inch beaver tails are not uncommon for this park,, But what the heck I've been pretty luck so far.. I dug down and at 9 inches found a crusty old Buffalo nickel.. Then shortly after that i circled a small tree and got a DEEP but definite injun hit.... Sure enough i rescued a Indian from the ground as well... Then Tim pulled up in his big whit van because you cant detect anywhere in Richmond without him finding you... I was standing in the middle of this little area he has been pounding,, He asked me with a little smirk on his face if i had found anything with him expecting me to say no!! I said yeah i got a few keepers... I held out my hand and dropped a hand full into his... lets just say the look on his face made my weekend  He didn't know what to think,,, And i loved every minute of it because this is the same guy that pounds my sites for hours even if i find a wheat penny lol Well thanks for looking everyone and happy hunting

Nice!

Sweet D.Beena hittin the iffy signals lately maself though I can only hunt about 1 hour per week these days. Got a 1914d barber last night. I'll post it in the AM.WTG.

Especially since your "site plunderer" got to experience them first hand. That had to be a good feeling to plop that stuff in his hand.:clapping: :bouncy:

Good finds...and glad you got to hunt.

...that shows you what a DFX can't do!

i swear on my SE, i missed so many good targets with my DFX!

(i dug my fair share of goodies, too, but my SE has really opened my eyes :surprised: to what's actually in the ground)

okay, now everybody tell me i just don't know how to use the DFX. :starwars:

nice pocket spill

Way to go!My buddy uses a dfx also..I let him hunt in front of me then i go over the spot after he cleaned out the clad for me :)It really bugs him since he sold me the Se becuse he couldnt figure it out hehe.Hes rdy to get an e-trac now tho after watching the minelab results 1st hand.Another thing with the dfx is when i get next to him his machine gets wacky,,yet it doesnt bother the Se at all.If thats the case for your 'buddy' also let him hunt close to you,he deff wont find anything then..Thx for posting your finds

Thanks Everyone!!!!!! I really appreciate all the reply's... I hope all of you get out and dive a jar full of silver soon!!!!!!!!!!

Just goes to show you that you have to hit certain targets at specific angles just to get them to give any kind of signal. I had 1 this weekend and I'm still shocked at what it was when it surfaced. Lots of Iron around my find and was only good one way and in a very, very small area. Just have to wait to see what it was though since I don't want to give it away just yet. Congrats on the Pocket Spill! Just shows you that the Explorer will finds stuff even if an area was pounded to death by a White's DFX. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:
